Barn Manager (Chatham Hall)
Chatham Hall is excited to begin the search for a Barn Manager to begin July 2023. Chatham Hall—a girls’ grades 9-12 boarding and day school in southern Virginia—has been a leader in educating girls and preparing them for college since 1894. The Barn Manager reports directly to the Director of Riding. This is a full-time, 12-month salaried position that oversees four barn staff members.
Responsibilities
- Daily care of roughly 35-40 School and privately owned horses
- Oversight and support of Barn Staff in managing daily tasks
- Oversight of tack/grooming supplies
- Ordering of general supplies
- Pasture care
- Farrier scheduling and billing
- Veterinarian scheduling
- Inventory oversight and regular ordering of hay, alfalfa, grain, supplements, and shavings, and proper billing for these items
- Coordinate billing for all boarded horses
Qualifications & Experience
- 3-5 years experience working in similar position preferred
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
- Competent in driving farm equipment including trucks, tractors, and trailers (both gooseneck and bumper pull)
- Good communication skills
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities, organize workload, and respond promptly to urgent situations
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
