WCHR Points & Standings

Each rider is responsible for tracking their own World Championship Hunter Rider points by checking the current WCHR standings and remitting all discrepancy inquiries in writing to the USHJA**

National & Regional Standings

Once the results for each WCHR Event are posted, exhibitors that competed at said Event shall be sent an email notification requesting they check their posted points and follow the link to fill out a Competition Survey within 30 days. Please note most discrepancies take more than a day to solve and all WCHR points and standings will be locked 30* days after they are posted. All inquiries must be made to USHJA in writing; please email kknott@ushja.org

*Should a horse be disqualified by the USEF Regulatory Department from a competition that is also a WCHR Event more than 30 days after a competition, the rider of the disqualified horse is also subject to lose those WCHR points.

Earning Points

Below is an overview of how WCHR points and standings are determined across all regions and categories.
Each section can expand for full details.

All WCHR points are based on the WCHR Increment Chart.

  • In most hunter sections, the tier from the chart is determined by the number of entries in the first over fences class.
  • Exception: In High Performance Hunter and Performance Hunter 3’6” and 3’3” sections, the tier is based on the number of entries in each individual class.

  • A horse must be ridden by the same rider in all over fences classes at a WCHR Event for points to count.
  • For owner awards, multiple riders are allowed.
  • Riders competing on more than one horse earn points only from their highest placing horse overall in their WCHR category at that event.
  • Model classes and Hunter Classics do not count toward points.

  • Standings for Professional and Developing Professional riders are determined by the highest placing horse overall in one eligible hunter section.
  • If a Developing Professional’s top-placing horse comes from a 3'0" or 3'3" section, those points count toward their Developing Professional Rider standings.
  • Points earned on their top-placing horse in a 3'6" or higher section at the same event count toward their Professional Rider standings.
  • As a result, a Developing Professional’s standings may differ between the two categories.

  • Points from a rider’s top four WCHR Events determine National and Regional standings.
  • Exhibitors earn Regional Award points only at WCHR Events held within their declared region.

To ensure consistent scoring nationwide:

  • Sections with two over fences and one under saddle class → points for each over fences class are doubled.
  • Sections with three over fences and one under saddle class → points for each over fences class are multiplied by 1.33.
  • If the total points are not a whole number, rounding follows standard rules (e.g., 124.49 → 124; 124.50 → 125).

  • Riders can earn points in only one category both nationally and regionally.
  • Exception: Developing Professionals may earn points in both the Professional and Developing Professional categories during the same competition year.

Champions in WCHR hunter sections will be awarded 2.0 times the total 1st place point value of the first class in that section. Reserve Champions will be awarded 1.2 times the total 1st place point value of the first class in that section. Refer to the increment chart below for 1st place point values.
