The 1.00/1.05m Junior/Amateur Zone Jumper and Zone Jumper Team are part of the USHJA Emerging Jumper Rider Program. The Program serves as the entry point for the Show Jumping Athlete Pathway, a joint USHJA-US Equestrian effort that identifies and nurtures Jumping athletes as they advance through the sport to enhance future success for Olympic and international teams representing the United States.
"I wanted this to be a great week for my horse and me, but also for my team," said Powlick, 1.10/1.15m Amateur Team Gold Medalist. "Being able to jump double clear for the team as the lead-off rider in each round was such an amazing feeling. Winning the gold medal was what I had been hoping for, and getting that experience on the podium with my teammates was very special!"
The Markel/USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships are open to Junior and Amateur riders at the 1.10/1.15m and 1.20/1.25m levels. Participants are recognized as USHJA Emerging Jumper Rider, with individual medalists recognized as Gold Star Emerging Jumper Riders.
"It feels very confident building [to win Gold]," remarked Duckstein, 1.20/1.25m Amateur Team and Individual Gold Medalist. "Riding on a team was a different experience. I felt a sense of responsibility and accountability that I don’t normally feel when I’m riding on my own. I was first to go for our team, so I felt additional pressure to have a clean round to start our team off just right."
The USHJA extends special thanks to the Nilforushan Equisport Events team for hosting these Championships. The USHJA also thanks official sponsors Herm Sprenger, Nutrena, Parlanti, and Stridefull; title sponsor Markel Insurance; and supporting sponsor Essex Classics.
