USHJA Green Hunter Incentive and International Hunter Derby Programs Near $18 Million in Prize Money Paid Out

First Enrollment Deadline Fast Approaching

Lexington, Kentucky—Jan. 27, 2020—This year, the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association Green Hunter Incentive and International Hunter Derby programs are on track to reach $18 million in prize money paid out to competitors across both programs since their inception.

To take advantage of the opportunities to showcase and earn substantial prize money in the Hunters, the USHJA encourages owners to enroll their horses for 2020 in the respective programs before the first enrollment price increase of the year. Exhibitors may enroll horses for $350 through February 1. On February 2, the price increases to $550 until June 1, after which the price increases to $750 for the remainder of the year.

Enrollment in the USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Program is open to horses that are eligible to compete in Green Hunter 3', 3'3", 3'6" or 3'9" sections. Horses must be enrolled in the USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Program to participate in the Green Hunter Stake classes, one of five regional championships, and to be eligible for the 2020 Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships, held August 11-13 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.

New in 2020, supporters of the program can purchase enrollment slots at the current rate and designate the specific horse(s) to them at a later date in the year. To purchase slots, please contact the office at 859-225-6700. More information and any restrictions are outlined in the program specifications.

Since its inception, the USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Program has paid out more than $3.4 million in prize money and continues to grow. In 2020, more than 230 Green Hunter Incentive Stake Classes will be held, as well as Regional Championships in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Texas, California and Oregon. A percentage of enrollment fees is used toward championship prize money, with more than $292,47 being awarded at the 2019 Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships.

A horse must be enrolled in the USHJA International Hunter Derby Program to be eligible for inclusion on the regional and national money won tracking lists, and to participate in the Platinum Performance/USHJA International Hunter Derby Championship, August 13-15 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. A horse may compete in an International Hunter Derby without being enrolled in the program. The USHJA International Hunter Derby horse enrollment is effective from the date on which a horse is enrolled through Nov. 30 of the competition year. Money won in International Hunter Derbies prior to enrollment in the program is not retroactive and does not count toward tracking lists, regional awards or Derby Championship qualifying.

To date, the USHJA International Hunter Derby program has paid out more than $14.5 million in prize money and will top the $15 million mark in 2020 with 72 Derbies scheduled to take place. More than $1,784,967 was paid out to Derby exhibitors in the 2019 competition year alone.
