USHJA Extends Deadline to June 15 for $25,000 Hamel Family Scholarship for Further Education

Lexington, Ky.—April 15, 2020—The U.S. Hunter Jumper Association is extending the deadline for the 2020 Hamel Family Scholarship for Further Education to June 15. The scholarship, made possible through a generous donation from the Kristen and James Hamel Family Foundation, awards up to $25,000 to one USHJA member to be used for college, graduate, trade or professional school.

“The opportunities [for education] are endless, and if we can reach those people here in the equestrian world, I think we can further so many people’s dreams,” said Kristen Hamel. “The things we were looking for in an applicant would be financial need, the drive to go to school and further their education, and they need to be passionate about the horse world.”

Current USHJA members who have been members for at least three consecutive years are eligible for the Hamel Scholarship for Further Education. Applicants must be accepted to a college, graduate, professional or trade school entering the 2020 fall semester as freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, trade or graduate student and meet the other requirements outlined in the application.

Designed to encourage further education among equestrians, the USHJA Hamel Scholarship for Further Education was established in 2016 and first awarded in 2017. Eligible candidates may apply for the Hamel Scholarship every year but may only be awarded the scholarship once.

“My husband and I have always considered education to be important because we both come from very hardworking families,” said Hamel. “We still work very hard and we want education and working hard to go hand in hand.”

The USHJA thanks Jim, Kristen and the entire Hamel Family for their dedication and support in providing this opportunity for members. To learn more and apply, visit ushja.org/foundation/hamel.
