USHJA Announces Slate of Candidates for Board of Directors Positions


Lexington, Ky.—November 21, 2018—The United States Hunter Jumper Association is pleased to announce the slate of candidates who will be on the ballot for the USHJA Board of Directors election in December at the USHJA Annual Meeting, presented by World Equestrian Center, Dec. 9-13, 2018, in Tampa, Florida. The Board of Directors will vote on the candidates for the Secretary, Treasurer and four Director At-Large positions during their meeting session on Monday, Dec. 10.

The following are the nominees for the Board of Directors positions open for election this year:

Secretary (four-year term)

  • Dianne Johnson, Kirkland, Wash.- NC Nominee

Treasurer (four-year term)

  • John Bahret, Middletown, R.I. - NC Nominee

At-Large Directors (four-year term) - Four Seats Will Be Filled

  • Richard Cram, Aiken, S.C. - BOD floor Nominee 
  • Steven Hankin, Los Angeles, Calif. - BOD floor Nominee
  • Britt McCormick, Allen, Texas - NC Nominee
  • Tobey McWilliams, Oley, Pa. - NC Nominee 
  • Betty Oare, Warrenton, Va. - BOD floor Nominee
  • Cheryl Rubenstein, Bellaire, Texas - NC Nominee 
  • Susan Schoellkopf, Buffalo, N.Y. - BOD floor Nominee
  • Liz Soroka, Sag Harbor, N.Y. - BOD floor Nominee
  • James Urban, Elkhorn, Neb. - NC Nominee 
  • Caroline Weeden, Lake Forest, Ill. - BOD floor Nominee

These candidates were determined through a multi-step process. USHJA members submitted nominations for USHJA Board of Director positions, which were then reviewed by the USHJA Nominating Committee. The committee interviewed candidates before submitting to the USHJA Board of Directors their recommended nominee for each position for inclusion on the ballot. Upon receipt of the Nominating Committee's recommended candidates, the Board of Directors had 10 days within which to name additional qualified nominations to the ballot for each of the positions from the floor, if they chose to do so. 

In addition, the newly seated Hunter and Jumper Working Groups will be meeting at Annual Meeting to appoint their respective Working Group Chairs. Once ratified by the Board, these chairs become officers to the USHJA Board as the Hunter Discipline Vice President and the Jumper Discipline Vice President. Additionally, the Hunter Working Group and the Jumper Working Group will each be naming four discipline directors to the Board of Directors. These positions will all be four-year terms. This final slate of appointees will be presented to the Board for ratification at the Board session on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018.

All elected and appointed members of the Board of Directors will assume their duties immediately following the close of this year's Annual Meeting.
