Lexington, Ky.—Sept. 4, 2025—The U.S. Hunter Jumper Association is pleased to welcome East-West Equine Sports Medicine as a supporting sponsor of the USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge through 2025.
This new sponsorship includes four $250 grants to support Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Nationals participants by helping offset travel and related expenses for those who qualify to compete. Applications are open now and close October 15, 2025.
“We are grateful for East-West Equine Sports Medicine’s support of the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge National competition,” said USHJA Executive Director Whitney Allen. "Their sponsorship provides valuable assistance to participants who have worked hard to qualify and reinforces the importance of horsemanship education in our sport.”
The USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge offers members the chance to test their horsemanship knowledge while competing for prizes and recognition. Open to USHJA members under the age of 21, the program begins with two levels of online quizzes covering topics such as horse care, nutrition, anatomy, and riding theory. Participants who achieve the required scores may advance through the program, with the top scorers earning the opportunity to be selected for Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Nationals. An Adult Horsemanship Quiz Challenge is also available for members 21 and older, with a virtual National final.
The National competition is a multi-phase, in-person event that brings together 24 of the top-scoring participants from across the country. Competitors are tested through a written exam, a horsemanship and identification exam, and a hands-on practicum designed to assess their practical knowledge and skills. Generously supported by USHJA sponsors, Nationals awards prizes to top finishers, with the top three overall also receiving training grants to continue their equine education.
“We grew up utilizing grassroots education programs like 4-H and US Pony Club as a gateway to horses leading us to our careers as high performance equine veterinarians," said Dr. Lori Bidwell DVM and Dr. Duncan Peters DVM, co-owners and founders of East-West Equine Sports Medicine. "We believe that supporting education programs like the USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Nationals is essential to broadening access to encourage a community of horsemen from all backgrounds. We are honored to be sponsoring the travel grants for the 2025 National Championship."
