USHJA Opens Horsemanship Quiz Challenge to All Ages for 2020

Registration for Adult Amateurs Opens April 1

Lexington, Ky.—Mar. 31, 2020—The U.S. Hunter Jumper Association is excited to officially open the USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge to all ages for 2020. The expanded program, the USHJA Adult Horsemanship Quiz Challenge, allows adult amateurs to now register, access the study guide, take the various quizzes, and have the chance to compete to attend Adult Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Nationals to be held at the Capital Challenge Horse Show on September 25-27, 2020.

“We are so pleased to expand the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge to members of all ages," said Mary Babick, president of the USHJA. “Providing accessible educational opportunities for our members is at the heart of our mission, and we hope our adult amateur members will take advantage of this fun new opportunity.”

Registration to the USHJA HQC opened in February to members aged 21 and under, but members of all ages are now eligible to participate in the knowledge competition. Amateurs aged 21 and older must register online for the quiz, study and then advance through two levels of online horsemanship quizzes. Participants must score an 80 percent or higher on the Level One Quiz to take the Level Two Quiz, on which they then must score a 90 percent or higher to be eligible for selection to the Adult HQC Nationals. Participants interested in being eligible for Adult HQC Nationals must complete both levels by September 1.

Program participants may use the online resources available through the program—the HQC Study Guide and HQC Practice Quiz—to prepare. These resources are also available on the USHJA website to anyone interested in improving their horsemanship knowledge.

Like the pre-existing HQC Nationals, 24 individuals comprised of the top individual scorers on the Level Two Quiz from each of the 12 USHJA Zones and the next 12 highest-ranked Level Two finishers nationally will be invited to participate in the Adult HQC Nationals. The National competition, to be held at the Capital Challenge Horse Show, September 25-27, will include a written test, identification exam and a hands-on practicum to put the top-scoring participants to the ultimate test.

“The HQC is a great way for members to expand their horsemanship knowledge,” said Cindy Cruciotti, chair of the HQC Adult Committee. “We are so excited to have adult amateurs participate this year, and we hope our adult members will enjoy testing their horsemanship knowledge for a chance to participate at the inaugural Adult HQC Nationals at the 2020 Capital Challenge Horse Show.”
