USHJA Virtual Clinics

The USHJA offers educational opportunities and experiences across diverse platforms for all levels and ages. Participate in our newest educational offering—virtual riding clinics! A USHJA Virtual Riding Clinic is modeled after a traditional two-day mounted, live clinic and open to horses and ponies ridden by juniors, amateurs and professionals. Each day, riders are assigned flatwork and jumping exercises and an expert clinician offers tips and feedback for improvement.

Participating in a virtual clinic is easy. First, select a focus: Hunter, Jumper or Equitation; then select a fence height level; submit a video of the prescribed exercises; and join the two virtual sessions with the clinician and your riding peers. Clinic groups are semi-private (4-6 riders) and meet over two days.

USHJA Virtual Clinic registration is $100 for USHJA members and $150 for non-members. Auditing is complementary with a suggested donation to the USHJA Foundation (please tag your donation for “Feed Aid”). Registration is first come, first served.

Chris Wynne is an active Hunter rider, trainer, and judge: an expert horseman with talents from starting young horses, developing riders, and getting the very best out of top show hunters. His teaching style is calm, logical, and thoughtful.

Chris Wynne has extensive involvement in the Hunter/Jumper and Equine industry governance.

His riding achievements are countless in years past and current, including top placings and tri-colors for Green Hunters, High Performance, and International Derbies. Horses and riders under his tutelage have won many USEF, state, and local championships.

Wynne is an active USEF Licensed Official with ‘R’ judge’s card in Hunter Breeding, Hunter, Hunter/Jumping Seat Equitation, and ‘R’ Hunter Course Designer. His judging career includes Premier competitions, including World Equestrian Center, Capital Challenge, The Kentucky National, 2018 USHJA Int’l Hunter Derby Championship and Green Hunter Incentive Championship to name a few.

Jeff Cook is a longtime horseman who has traveled many roads to carve out a respected place in the horse business.

Born in Portland, Cook road the Pacific Northwest show scene with Don and Joan (Curtin) Kerron. Relocating to Toronto provided an opportunity to work with Hugh Graham for a couple of years, before returning to the Lake Oswego Hunt Club in Portland.

He headed East from 1986-1991 where he worked with George Morris, and then Carl and Lolly Hogan.

He then worked for Ira Gumberg in Wellington before returning home to Portland and riding the Kilkenny Crest horses for Doug and Sheri Boyd.

Requests for clinics continued to grow for Cook, and he decided to devote himself to clinics full time.

“I love the show ring but my true love is teaching”. I am just as happy teaching lessons at home or doing clinics, I like that the most. I do miss the chance to be around and absorb at the ring, especially the high performance riders. I learn so much just watching and listening.”

Karen Healey moved to California in 1981 and began her business at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. In the following years, she developed many successful riders including Mia Wood, Lauren Kay, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, Kristen Posehn, 1998 AHSA Junior Horsemen of the Year Jill Prieto and Kasey Ament.

Since coming to California and forming her own Karen Healey Stables, her riders have won over 100 medal finals, including the 1990 ASPCA Maclay National Finals and the USET Talent Search Finals in 1986, 1987, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. She has also trained numerous champion hunters and jumpers at indoors, including the 1990 AHSA Large Junior Hunter National Champion, Magic Word; the 2005 USEF Amateur Owner Hunter 36 and Over National Champion, Country Grammar; and the 1996 and 1998 AHSA Junior Jumper National Champion Freestyling. Her jumper riders have also earned medals at the NAYC and the Prix de States, including gold medalists Hannah Selleck, Samantha Harrison and Kilian McGrath.

In addition to her students’ success in the show ring, Karen is an instrumental force in the administration of equestrian sport. She holds a USEF R-rated judging license and has judged some of the most prestigious shows in the country, including the Devon Horse Show, the Hampton Classic, the USEF Pony Finals and the Platinum Performance/USEF Show Jumping Talent Search East Coast Finals.
