Markel/USHJA Platinum Jumper Championships

Part of the USHJA Emerging Jumper Program, the Markel/USHJA Platinum Jumper Championships are open to Professionals, Juniors or Amateurs, offering team and individual competition and an opportunity to qualify for continued education with top national and international industry experts. The Championships are held regionally: North (Zones 1, 2, 5, & 6), South (Zones 3, 4, & 7) and West (Zones 8, 9, & 10).


Designed for athletes competing successfully in the 1.30/1.35m and the 1.40/1.45m Jumpers, athlete/horse combinations qualify for the Platinum Jumper Championships by earning a minimum of $250 and completing an application at least 7 days before their zone’s Platinum Jumper Championships. The Championships are restricted to those athlete/horse combinations that have not competed in an Open High Performance Standard Grand Prix in the current competition year (JP122.4d).

Competition Format

Athlete/horse combinations earn a position on a team composed of professionals, juniors and amateurs. The Championships offer team and individual competition and use a cumulative scoring format. ´╗┐The 1.30/1.35m classes may be held as overlay classes with grand prix classes held at the Reginal Standard. The 1.40/1.45m open classes may be held as an overlay, and grand prix classes held at the American Standard offered during the same competition. The team competition classes are held as standalone classes. 

Individual medalists from the Platinum Jumper Championships and select Wild Cards will be designated as USHJA Show Jumping Platinum Athletes and will be eligible for continued education where athletes will participate in advanced workshops and training sessions with top national and international clinicians and industry specialists.

Chef d'Equipe

The Chef d’Equipe is a recognized volunteer of each USHJA Zone who provides support at team competitions throughout the year. As the leader of the team, the Chef d’Equipe will assist their Athletes in navigating Jumper Championships and understanding expectations, while creating a cohesive team environment. The Chef d’Equipe is the team representative and liaison between competition officials and their athletes. They are responsible for providing information and communications concerning the competition, as well as implement strategies to generate the best results with their team. Interested individuals are requested to review the Chef d’Equipe job description and submit a completed application to the USHJA Zone Liaison 60 days prior to the start of the applicable Jumper Championship. Applications are reviewed and voted on by the applicant’s respective Zone Committee.
