Therapeutic Riding Instructor (Healing with Horses Ranch)
Job Description:
Healing with Horses Ranch seeks a Specialized Therapeutic Riding Instructor, to assist in providing safe and effective Adaptive Horseback Riding and Therapeutic Equine Assisted Activities for individuals in a target population. Healing with Horses Ranch is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing equine-assisted services in Central Texas. Through the partnership of horses & humans, we help individuals build resilience, independence, and strong relationships in a safe, inclusive environment where growth is lasting & life-changing. Based in Manor, Texas, just outside Austin, Healing with Horses Ranch serves Travis County & surrounding communities. Our trauma-informed programs support three core populations: persons living with a disability, uniformed service members, and at-risk youth. We serve individuals of all ages living with mental health diagnoses & complex life challenges through adaptive (therapeutic) riding, equine-assisted learning, and equine-assisted psychotherapy.
Objective
Responsible for providing safe and effective Adaptive Horseback Riding and Therapeutic Equine Assisted Activities for individuals with disabilities, at-risk youth, and Veterans.
Skills Needed
- Excellent teaching and horsemanship skills that demonstrate a high level of creativity, compassion and competence when providing safe effective Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT)
- Strong risk management skills that keep clients, equines, and staff members safe.
- Strong decision making abilities and high attention to detail.
- Dependable and capable of working with minimum supervision in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to collaborate with a team with diverse backgrounds and skill sets.
- Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and manage multiple projects.
- Strong understanding of PATH Intl standards.
- Ability to communicate with families, students, staff, and volunteers in a professional courteous manner regarding lessons, problems, solutions and schedules.
- Ability to evaluate horses for therapeutic riding programs through a knowledge of principles of therapeutic riding, equine movement and equine psychology.
Qualifications
PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, and/or Adv. PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, and/or Master PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic: OR Riding Instructor with a certification from CHA, ARIA, USDF, USHJA, United States Pony Club, or equivalent certifier and the ability to become PATH Intl. Certified within six months of employment; OR over 2000+ hours working as a trainer/riding instructor at a reputable barn or facility and the ability to become PATH Intl. Certified within six months of employment
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Completion of all Healing with Horses Volunteer Trainings
- Passes the Healing with Horses Ranch Advanced Conditioning Team Riding evaluation
