USHJA Expands Educational Offerings at USEF Pony Finals

Horsemanship sessions open to the public

Lexington, Ky.  – June 1, 2018 – This year, as hundreds of pony riders descend upon the Kentucky Horse Park for the USEF Pony Finals, presented by Collecting Gaits Farm, in August, the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association will offer an expanded menu of educational clinics for both competitors and the general public.

"Education is a top priority for the USHJA and one of the most important services we provide to the sport," said Mary Babick, USHJA president. "Given the longstanding success of our educational clinics at Pony Finals, we are excited to add to that and open up horsemanship sessions to the public."

As in prior years, USHJA will offer model, judge's perspective and sports psychology clinics to participants in the USEF Pony Finals. New this year, four additional educational sessions will be offered covering proper equine nutrition, common equine parasites and how to treat them, conformation, and equine vital signs.

Competitors interested in participating in the model clinics must sign up on Monday evening during the rider bag pick up. Other sessions do not require any sign up but are first come, first served, and all clinics are free.

• Tuesday, August 7 (7:30-8:30 a.m.): Model Clinic
• Tuesday, August 7 (9-10 a.m.): Model Clinic
• Wednesday, August 8 (6:30-7:30 a.m.): Model Clinic
• Wednesday, August 8 (1-2 p.m.): Sports Psychology
• Thursday, August 9 (10-10:45 a.m.): Nutrition: "Hay Is for Horses"
• Thursday, August 9 (11-11:45 a.m.): Common Equine Parasites: "Monsters Inside"
• Thursday, August 9 (1-1:45 p.m.): Conformation: "Finding Your Unicorn"
• Thursday, August 9 (2-2:45 p.m.): Equine Vital Signs: "TPR: It's Vital!"
• Friday, August 10 (9-11 a.m.): Judge's Perspective
