The clinic will include mounted instruction with Kursinski. A five-time Olympian, two-time Olympic Silver Medalist, author, clinician and international competitor, Kursinski is one of the U.S.'s most accomplished and respected show jumping athletes and is known for her fluid, classical American riding style. She started her international career while still in high school, competing on the U.S. Nation's Cup Team at Spruce Meadows. In 2008, she went to her fifth Olympic Games in Hong Kong, as the U.S. Gold Medal Team's reserve rider.

Reed will lead unmounted instruction. Reed's education from Pony Club ignited her passion for horse care and stable management. She attended Centenary College, where she majored in Equine Studies and Management, and was given an internship at famed Beacon Hill Show Stables working as a groom for top show hunters. Before long, she was a traveling manager, accompanying upwards of 25 horses to events nationwide.

In addition to Kursinski and Reed, the clinic will offer other educational presentations from top athletes and horsemen. This includes horse health and nutrition discussions, education about what to expect as a member of a competitive Jumping team, and information about international Jumping competition. The mounted instruction will conclude with a competitive team format.

The clinic's mounted sessions will be livestreamed on USHJA TV on Horse & Country TV.

During a normal year, individual medalists from the Markel/USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships receive the designation of Gold Star Emerging Jumper Riders and those from the Markel/USHJA Platinum Jumper Championships as Show Jumping Platinum Athletes and are invited to attend one of the Gold Star Clinics. The top two riders from the USHJA Emerging Athletes Program National Training Session are also invited to attend the Gold Star Clinic of their choice, as well as a select number of Wild Card participants. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the 2020 Zone Jumper Team and Platinum Jumper Championships, USHJA adjusted the rider selection procedures for the 2021 Gold Star Clinics.

The USHJA Gold Star Clinic - West was postponed last month due to COVID-19 and will be rescheduled to a later date.

Applications are open for the 2021 Markel/USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships and Markel/USHJA Platinum Jumper Championships. Learn more at ushja.org/zonejumper and ushja.org/platinumjumper. To learn more about the Emerging Jumper Rider Program, visit ushja.org/emergingjumper.
