
Temecula, Calif.—Oct. 22, 2025—Nearly 100 riders came together in Temecula, California, for an action-packed week at the Temecula Valley National Fall 3, hosted by Nilforushan Equisport Events. From October 15-19, the USHJA 1.00/1.05m Junior/Amateur Zone Jumper Championships for Zones 9 and 10 and the Markel/USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships - West showcased top talent all vying for Gold.
"As a gold medalist, I feel proud of myself that all my hard work has paid off this year to make me a better rider," remarked Brianna Shannon, 1.00/1.05 Junior Individual Gold Medalist and member of Team Calypso, who earned Gold. "Riding on a team was extremely rewarding, and I loved the camaraderie between me and my teammates."

Chefs d'Equipe Jamie Taylor, Ian McFarlane, Tammy Chipko, Caroline Sterckx, Mark Watring, Ned Gylnn, and Sophie St. Clair from Zone 10 and Mary Von Zimmerman, Mollie Bogardus, and Beka Swan from Zone 9 oversaw the USHJA 1.00/1.05m Junior/Amateur Zone Jumper Championships.
"I was incredibly excited when I heard we won, and I nearly cried," shared Xinyuan Lin, member of Gold Medal Team Calypso. "Winning was definitely a milestone for my horse, and I can see how much progress we've made since our first show. We can't wait to come back next year."
The USHJA 1.00/1.05m Junior/Amateur Zone Jumper Championships provide riders with a competitive team experience and an opportunity to earn Zone Horse of the Year points in the 1.00/1.05m Junior and Amateur Jumper sections. To qualify, riders must apply and earn a minimum of 20 points in their respective Jumper sections at USEF-licensed competitions by their zone's deadline, which is 45 days prior to the selected championship. Riders must also be current Active USEF and USHJA Junior or Amateur members in good standing.
During the championship, riders compete in a three-day competition format. Day one entails a first round of the team championship and the first individual qualifying class. Day two consists of the second round of the team championship and the second individual qualifying class. For the last competition day, the top 15 individual finalists from the qualifying classes return to jump for the individual championship title.

Chefs d'Equipe Heatherly Davis, Alicia Saxton, Michelle Parker, Mitch Endicott, Erin Isom, Lindsay Archer, Kevin Lemke, Laura Gerst, Mickey Hayden, Lane Clarke, and Judy Nielson from Zone 10; Swan, Von Zimmerman, and Philippa Melski from Zone 9; and Shawn Casady and Alexia Honegger from Zone 4 oversaw the Markel/USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships.
"My horse, Secret Fernhill, and I always want to win," said Vasan, 1.10/1.15 Junior Individual Gold Medalist and member of Gold Medalist Team Nautical. "Our goal was to go clear all week, and we did it. It feels incredible to have won two gold medals."

The Zone Jumper Team Championships are part of the USHJA Emerging Jumper Rider Program. The Program serves as the entry point for the Show Jumping Athlete Pathway, a joint USHJA-US Equestrian effort that identifies and nurtures Jumping athletes as they advance through the sport to enhance future success for Olympic and international teams representing the United States.
"Being a Gold Medalist feels really amazing, and I'm genuinely grateful that my team and I were able to achieve this win," added Uhrig, member of Team Touch of Class, the winning 1.20/1.25m Junior Team. "This wasn't a typical show where you compete by yourself against everyone else. Riding on a team was a fun change and put pressure on me to ride well."
The Markel/USHJA Zone Jumper Team Championships are open to Junior and Amateur riders at the 1.10/1.15m and 1.20/1.25m levels. Participants are recognized as USHJA Emerging Jumper Riders, with individual medalists recognized as Gold Star Emerging Jumper Riders.
"I got to ride with a talented and consistent team," commented James, a member of the 1.20/1.25m Amateur Gold Medal Team, Fleet Apple. "I'm so proud to bring home the win for Zone 9 and my home state of Idaho. This win is so rewarding after the work my horse and I have put in."
Individual medalists and their trainers will receive invitations to one USHJA Gold Star Clinic of their choice within two years, featuring four days of mounted and unmounted instruction from top clinicians and industry experts. The clinics rotate coasts annually, with the 2026 event to be held at Desert International Horse Park in Thermal, California, from January 7-11 with instruction from Nicki Shahinian-Simpson.
