Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championship

For horses competing at 3'0", 3'3", 3'6" or 3'9"


The Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships return to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington on August 14-16, 2018, with a new section of fence heights. The Championships are for Green Hunters competing at 3', 3'3", 3'6" or 3'9".

Two Championships are offered in 2018—one for Green Hunters competing at 3'0" and 3'3", and one for Green Hunters competing for 3'6" or 3'9".

How to Qualify

Enrolled horses must compete in a minimum of two USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Stake classes at competitions starting between December 1, 2016, and July 25, 2018, is eligible for the 2018 Championship to qualify for the Championships.

Championship Format

3'0"/3'3" Championship Format
The 3'0"/3'3 Championships consists of three rounds offered at both 3'0" and 3'3", and riders choose the height at which their horse(s) compete. All horses compete in the first two rounds, in which they receive numerical scores. The 30 horses, including those tied for 30th, with the highest combined scores from the first two rounds, advance to the third round, where they start with a clean slate.

3'6"/3'9" Championship Format
The 3'6"/3'9" Championships consists of two rounds offered at both 3'6" and 3'9", and riders declare the height at which their horse(s) compete. All horses compete in the first round, in which they receive numerical scores. The 30 horses, including those tied for 30th, with the highest scores from the first round, advance to the second round, where they start with a clean slate.

*Please note that Green Hunters must compete at the height they are eligible for according to the USEF rulebook.

Prize Money

The Championship prize money topped $218,000 in 2017. Prize money is distributed among the top 30 in each round.

Sixty-five percent of annual enrollment fees and 70 percent of the entry fees make up the total prize money for the Championship less $25,000 allocated toward the Green Hunter Incentive Regional Championships. Enrollment and entry fees for the 3'6"/3'9" Green Hunters make up the 3'6"/3'9" championship prize money. Enrollment and entry fees for the 3'0"/3'3" Green Hunters make up the 3'0"/3'3" championship prize money.

80% of the total prize money for the 3'/3'3" Championship will be awarded to the top 30 as follows:

  • 20% of the total prize money will be awarded to the top 30 horses in the First Round
  • 20% of the total prize money will be awarded to the top 30 horses in the Second Round
  • 40% of the total prize money will be awarded to the top 30 horses in the Overall 3'0"/3'3" GHIP Championship standings

80% of the total prize money for the 3'6"/3'9" Championship will be awarded to the top 30 as follows:

  • 40% of the total prize money will be awarded to the top 30 horses in the First Round
  • 40% of the total prize money will be awarded to the top 30 horses in the Second Round

Tier II

  • 20% of the 3'0"/3'3" Championship prize money will be awarded to the top 10 Tier II riders participating in the GHIP 3'/3'3" Championship according to the highest combined scores from Round 1 and Round 2.
  • 20% of the 3'6"/3'9" Championship prize money will be awarded to the top 10 Tier II riders participating in the GHIP 3'6"/3'9" Championship according to the highest scores from Round 1.

Tier II prize money will be awarded as follows:

1st 30%
2nd 20%
3rd 15%
4th 9%
5th 7%
6th 6%
7th 5%
8th 4%
9th 3%
10th 1%

Enrollment and Entry Fees

Note: All riders not listed as Tier I are considered Tier II for the Championship.

Horses must be enrolled in the Green Hunter Incentive Program prior to entering the Championship, and the $850 class entry fee must be submitted with the entry forms.

In addition to the standard qualifying process, USHJA created the Premium Entry Option to enable owners to enter horses in the Green Hunter Incentive Championship that for various reasons, were not able to qualify through the standard process. The Premium Entry Option consists of a $3,000 Premium Entry Fee, which must be paid in full at the time of entry, 100 percent of which will be added to the prize money of the Green Hunter Incentive Championship. Competitors using the Premium Entry Option to qualify will still pay the enrollment fee and entry fee.

Invitations to Compete

USHJA will email invitations to compete in the 2018 Platinum Performance/USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championships to recorded owners and riders of qualified horses in June. The invitation will include links to the USHJA Green Hunter Incentive Championship entry form and the entire online prize list. Invitations will be issued weekly as horses continue to qualify.

Entry Deadline

Entries close on July 25, 2018. Exhibitors are required to complete both the Championship entry form and the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show entry form. All entry forms, entry fees, stall fees, drug fees, night watch fees and all other applicable fees are paid to the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show. The entry forms must be mailed to the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show at 3005 Montavesta Rd, Lexington, KY 40502.

Entries must be received in the Bluegrass Festival Horse Show office or postmarked by July 25, 2018. The entry fee, including premium entry fee if applicable, is non-refundable after August 3, 2018. The ground jury reserves the right to accept or refuse entries after the closing date due to extenuating circumstances, on a case by case basis, and late entries are not guaranteed. If permitted, late entries will incur a $250 late entry fee. It is recommended that you use a method of delivery which provides delivery confirmation.
