The USHJA Foundation Horsemans Assistance Fund (HAF) protects the welfare of the USHJA community by providing emergency financial assistance to individuals, horses, or organizations after a life-changing illness, injury, catastrophic accident, or natural disaster.

  • The HAF provides funds to help with the following types of expenses:
  • Medical or veterinary expenses related to the emergency situation
  • Medical or property insurance premiums to ensure continued coverage during the time of emergency need
  • Necessary basic living expenses during the approved time of emergency need
  • Horse transportation expenses related to accident, injury, or natural disaster
  • Boarding, feed, or veterinary supplies needed to care for a horse after accident, injury or natural disaster

Applicant Eligibility Requirements:

  • Active USHJA membership or USHJA Affiliate membership
  • US Citizen or Legal Residet
  • Financially incapacitated due to an illness, injury, catastrophic accident, or natural disaster
  • Exhausted all other means of financial support

Program Overview

The funding to support this program is derived from private gifts, USHJA member events, and dedicated fundraising efforts. The majority of the gifts distributed from the fund are between $1,000 and $10,000, provided the applicant meets all eligibility requirements.
