USHJA Nominating Committee Seeks Member Recommendations for Upcoming Election

The USHJA Nominating Committee is seeking recommendations for potential candidates for the office of Treasurer and Secretary, as well as three At-Large positions on the Board of Directors. The process and procedures for submitting recommendations will be available on the USHJA website on September 10.

Feedback Requested: Upcoming Hunter Restructure Retreat

On September 13-14 the Hunter Restructure Committee is having a retreat. In order to benefit the sport as a whole it is important to go through a process of reviewing our sport to identify any weaknesses and address them in a productive manner. Please send topic ideas and solutions targeted at making our sport better to Melanie Fransen by September 11, via email at

In 2008, the USHJA Hunter Restructure Committee was created and charged with taking an overview of the hunter division and propose innovative changes to the hunter division. The committee has already successfully proposed new rules for the sport - click here for what the committee has already accomplished.

The mission of the USHJA Hunter Restructure Committee is to identify and preserve the core traditions of show hunters, while restructuring the hunter division. The Committee will encourage innovation, create expanded opportunities for participation and provide for flexible competition choices.

Accepting Nominations for the
2010 Amateur Sportsmanship Award

The accolades for the Amateur Sportsmanship Award candidates must have been earned between December 1, 2009 - September 7, 2010. Nominations for the award may come from exhibitors, trainers, colleagues or peers. The nominee must be an active or associate member of USHJA. The nomination must include a completed application ( 2010 Nomination Form), contact information and a list of notable accomplishments/services. A letter of recommendation is highly recommended. Nominations must be submitted to USHJA by Monday, October 18, 2010. The members of the USHJA Amateurs Committee will review the nominations and select the winner.

The goal of the Amateur Sportsmanship Award is to recognize Amateur-Owner and Adult Amateur exhibitors who exhibit a degree of excellence and integrity by supporting their fellow competitors and volunteer their time and resources to various aspects of the industry. Examples of this include: serving on committees, providing sponsorships, and promoting the welfare of the horse. Success in the show ring to be a secondary factor.

The award will be presented during our Evening of Equestrians Awards Dinner at annual meeting.
