Chairman's Corner

With Alaska's show season rapidly approaching, this is a reminder for everyone to renew their USEF and USHJA memberships, and their horses' recordings. There are five recognized hunter/jumper shows scheduled in Zone 12 this year, starting with Glacier Equestrian Events May 29-31 in Palmer.

Wishing everyone a great show season,

Dana Eaton

Age Group Equitation Points Policy

As you gear up for spring and summer competitions, please note that a Presidential Modification to USEF Rule GR1131.11, approved on April 10, 2015, allows exhibitors competing in Age Group Equitation classes to receive points for their respective age group section regardless of how competition management chooses to divide each class, effective for the 2015 competition year. Please read the official Presidential Modification approval letter for more information.

Zone 12 Educational Grants

Since 2011, the USHJA Foundation has partnered with several USHJA

Prizes offered at the fourth horse show/clinic, supported by the 2014 Zone 12 General Education Gran

Zones to offer the Scholarship & Grants Partner Program, as a means for zones to give back to their members in the form of financial assistance towards educational needs.

Last year, Jill Cornforth was the recipient of the general education grant, which helped her offset costs associated with hosting a series of four unrated one-day horse shows paired with one-day clinics in Fairbanks with the following judges and clinicians: Jaimie Thurman, Jaime Freeman, Bill Turner and Dana Eaton. Rebecca Carrington acted as assistant manager for these events, which offered great educational opportunities to a variety of Alaskan equestrians.

This year, the Zone 12 Hunter Jumper Committee will offer one Trainer Certification Program Clinic travel grant, two grants for young riders who has been accepted to attend a USHJA Emerging Athletes Program Regional Training Session and at least one general education grant up to $1,000.

Application Deadlines:

EAP Grants-----    due May 5, 2015

TCP Grant-----    due August 1, 2015

General Educational Grants-----    due August 1, 2015
