The USHJA Special Projects Committee has collected the information below as a means for providing college bound students and parents one place where they can find information about colleges that offer equine programs and the various national and state scholarships that are available. We understand that there are a lot of programs and scholarships available and our goal is to continually update the information provided.

Horse Show Ventures Scholarship Foundation
Horse Show Ventures Foundation Scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating High School senior, GED recipient or continuing College student to be used to defray their college education expenses.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist the equestrian in the Hunter / Jumper discipline from the Southeastern region of the United States with the pursuit of a college education.

The Scholarship shall be awarded to the equestrian that has demonstrated an ability to combine the pursuit of horsemanship skills in the Hunter / Jumper discipline, commitment and passion for the sport, while committing him or herself to a higher education.

Factors taken into consideration in selecting a recipient for the Scholarship will be participation in equestrian competition, demonstration of commitment to and achievement of horsemanship skills, citizenship in the community and sport, academic effort, and need.

Scholarship applications shall be reviewed and recommendations for award of funds shall be made by a Foundation Committee consisting of the following of: equestrian professionals, life long amateur equestrians, college age equestrians, and individuals outside of the equestrian community.

Scholarship Funding for 2006 is one award in the amount of $1,000. The Scholarship is funded by Horse Show Ventures and private donors. Anyone wishing to donate funds toward the Horse Show Ventures Scholarship Foundation for 2007, may do so by contacting Morgan Taylor, see contact information below.

Linerty Network Side Saddle Scholarships
The Side Saddle Training Scholarship, worth $250.00, will be awarded to an Adult rider. Funds are
to be used for instructional purposes only.

The Side Saddle Training Scholarship, worth $250.00, will be awarded to a Junior rider. Funds are to be used for instructional purposes only.

National Professional Horseman's Association
The Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance from a fund established for children of Professional Members or Professional Members of more than two years who are enrolled in an approved school for the advancement of their education beyond the elementary level. Life Associate and Life Professional membership dues are automatically applied to the Scholarship fund and are tax deductible. ANY donation to the Scholarship Fund is considered tax deductible by the IRS.

National Jr PHA Awards - Scholarship Award
This Scholarship will be awarded to an active member of the Junior PHA. He or she must be one who has shown interest and good sportsmanship in any aspect of the horse industry, and has the ability to benefit from Professional training.
The Award is to be used by said Junior for riding lessons with a Professional Horseman of his choice, providing the Professional is a member in good standing of the PHA.
The process to be used by each Junior Chapter to qualify for this Award is as follows:

1. Juniors may nominate any Junior member they feel worthy.
2. Juniors to hand into the Junior Advisor or President a brief resume of the person they are nominating.
3. Nominations will be considered by a committee consisting of the four Junior Officers, two Professionals and two Associates (to include the President and the Junior Advisor); the other two left to the discretion of the President.
4. Each Chapter may nominate one Junior for every twenty-five members or fraction thereof to the National for consideration.
5. The nominations to be sent by November 1st to the National Junior chairman for consideration.
6. Each chapter is encouraged to give a small scholarship to its local nominee if he or she is not the National Winner.

At the National Level
The National judging committee is to include the President, Eastern and Western Vice-Presidents, and the Junior Chairman.

The CPHA Foundation offers 5 educational scholarships annually for CPHA Professionals who are working students or to children of CPHA Professionals. The scholarships are for $2000.00 and the applications are due by April 1st of each year. The application can be downloaded from the website www.cpha.org and then hit the link for the Foundation Page, go to scholarship application and download.

KENTUCKY
Georgetown College Equine Scholars Program is a unique way for students to pair their college education with their passion for horses. We offer scholarships for all eligible students and we’ll also match any approved horse industry scholarship they receive up to $1,000 (for example, if they get a $1,000 scholarship from the USPC, it will be worth $2,000 at Georgetown if they’re accepted into the program). MICHIGAN
Michigan Hunter Jumper Association
The M.H.J.A. is pleased to sponsor a one thousand dollar educational scholarship
open to MH.J.A. riders who are high school seniors and have been
accepted or enrolled in an accredited college, university, or technical
school. Applications will be accepted from Sept.. through July 31ST and must be
postmarked on or before July 31ST. Portfolios must be complete and no material
will be accepted after due date We are seeking riders who exemplify good
character and horsemanship.

Applicants will be asked to submit the following:

1. A one page essay titled "How Horses Have Influenced My Life"
2. Copy of high school transcript.
3. Do you have a college fund in place?
4. Do you qualify for financial aid?
5. Community service contributions
6. Extra curricular activities and interests
7. Letters of Recommendation
8. How long have you been a member of MHJA
9. Completed MHJA Application

The scholarship funds will be mailed to the school of your choice upon notice
of acceptance and enrollment. A certificate of scholarship will be awarded to
the winning applicant at the Nov. Awards Banquet.

NEW YORK
LIPHA Scholarship Award
One of the primary goals of the LIPHA is education. In line with this goal, the LIPHA is proud to announce that it will offer two scholarships, each valued at $1000.00, to two graduating high school seniors who have been Junior PHA members for at least two years.
The winners may only use the scholarship to pay for academic fees, and may not use it to purchase riding equipment or to pay show entry fees and related expenses.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be scheduled to graduate from high school prior to June 30th of the academic year.
  • Candidates must be a Junior PHA member for at least two calendar years prior to the awarding of the scholarship.

Candidates must submit their application by May 31st to be considered for the scholarship. All applications received after that date will be returned. In addition to filling out and sending an application, Candidates will be required to:

  • Write an essay not to exceed 500 words indicating why he/she should receive the scholarship, what it will be used for and how it will further his/her career.
  • Supply two letters of recommendation supporting his/her level of motivation and probability for success in his/her chosen profession.

PENNSYLVANIA
Eastern Pennsylvania PHA Scholarships
The EPPHA offers monetary scholarships for secondary education (college/graduate school) to deserving members. Scholarships are available to children whose parent(s) are professional horsemen and women (EPPHA Scholarship) and to children whose parent(s) are not professional horsemen and women (Jack Trainor Scholarship and Barbara J. Stock Scholarship). We also offer the Bill Hoffman Scholarship to a deserving member for use towards a horse-related event (i.e., clinic). VIRGINIA
The Allie Miller Memorial Riding Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship donated from the VHSA Foundation and Allie Miller's Family in honor of her memory. It is given to a junior rider on the basis of need, ability and desire, and is to be used for riding instructions with a professional trainer. Selection is made by a committee from nominations sent to the office by the VHSA membership.

The Michael Lenehan Scholarship is a $1,000 College Scholarship in memory of Michael Lenehan donated by Mrs. Louisa Lenehan. This scholarship is awarded to a deserving high school senior on the basis of need, scholastic record and participation in the VHSA.

Please send in your letters now nominating either yourself or someone you know who is worthy of one of these scholarships. Letters are accepted throughout the show year.

WISCONSIN
