Who has to be a member of USHJA?
Any individual who signs the entry blank as the rider, trainer
or owner for hunter, jumper or hunter seat equitation classes at
USEF licensed competitions must be an Active Member of USHJA or
pay the non-member fee of $20.00 per competition.
Those individuals who do not show, or do not sign the entry blanks
for entries in hunter, jumper, or hunter seat equitation classes
at USEF licensed competitions may join the USHJA as an Associate
Member for a lower membership fee.

Per GR1056.8 & GR1061.11Any judge officiating USEF Open (not
restricted to a breed) hunter and/or jumper classes must be a current
member in good standing of the United States Hunter Jumper Association,

Per GR1013.1a Any steward officiating USEF Open (not restricted
to a breed) hunter and/or jumper classes must be a current member
in good standing of the United States Hunter Jumper Association,

Per GR1202.1 [Manager] An individual acting in this capacity is
required to be a Senior Active Member of the Federation. In addition,
any individual acting as the manager of a hunter and/or jumper Open
(not restricted to a breed) competition must be a current member
in good standing of the United States Hunter Jumper Association,

Per GR1059.6 The Hunter course designer must be a Senior Member
of USEF and must be knowledgeable in the rules relating to the Hunter
classes being offered. The hunter course designer must also be a

I show in hunter and jumper classes at Arabian
Horse competitions only. Do I have to join USHJA in order to show?
No. The USHJA membership is required only if you are showing in
hunter, jumper or hunter seat equitation classes at "open"
shows - that is, competitions not restricted to a particular breed.
What are the membership categories and
dues for the USHJA?
Active Members - Those individuals
who enter USEF licensed competitions as a rider, owner, or trainer
who receive full benefits of USHJA membership for the year.
Associate Members - Those individuals
not competing in USEF licensed competitions who receive all
other benefits of USHJA membership for the year. (Associate Members
are subject to USHJA non-member fees if competing in USEF licensed
competitions.)
Life Member - Full benefits of USHJA
membership for life.$1,000
Farm Recording - $100.00 one time fee
- provided at least one owner is a current USHJA Senior Active or
Life Member.
Affiliated Association $100.00* annual fee - State/Regional
Associations must have the following characteristics to be eligible
for affiliate membership in the USHJA: Affiliate members shall consist
of any local, state, regional and national organizations, clubs,
associations, corporations, and other groups that conduct equestrian
competitions or other programs or events, educational institutions
which offer equine related programs, and other organizations approved
by the Board of Directors that have united together to form an association.
How many membership cards will I receive and
how many membership numbers?
If you join or renew as a USEF member and a USHJA member at the
same time on a joint application, you will receive one membership
card. If you join or renew separately on different dates you may
receive two membership cards, one for each organization. The membership
number will be the same for both the USEF and the USHJA.
Life members will receive two membership cards in 2007, one for
each organization. These cards should be kept as they now read "member
since" and a new card will not be sent every year as they have
been in the past.
*Please note there is a $15 reprint fee for the issuance of
a duplicate membership card.
What about non-member fees?
The non-member fee to USHJA is $20.00 per competition. If you are
a non-member of either or both the USEF and the USHJA, the non-member
fee is $20.00 per competition for each organization. You will pay
all non-member fees directly to the competition.
What is the amount of the USEF hunter/jumper
discipline fee?
The USEF hunter/jumper discipline fee is currently
$15.00.
What are my total membership fees to USEF and
to USHJA?
If you participate as a rider, owner, or trainer in hunter and/or
jumper classes at USEF licensed competitions your membership fees
are as follows:
Senior Member: $110 (USEF $40 base fee + USEF $15 h/j discipline
fee + USHJA $55 senior active membership fee)
Junior Member: $80 (USEF $35 base fee + USHJA $45 junior
active membership fee)
Do I need to record my horse with USHJA?
No. USHJA does not offer horse recordings at this time. However,
you must record your horse with USEF if you are competing in certain
classes and/or you wish to accumulate points towards the USHJA Foundation
Awards and/or USEF Zone and National Horse of the Year Awards.
Do I need to record my farm with USHJA?
Although it is not mandatory that you record your horse with USHJA
at this time, if your farm is recorded with USEF and you are showing
your horses under the farm name, we encourage you to record the
farm with USHJA as well. The owner of the farm who signs the entry
blank will be required to be a member of USHJA or pay a non-member
fee. Lifetime Farm Recordings with USHJA are $100.

Are there any exemptions to becoming a
USHJA member?
USEA: Active members of the U.S. Eventing Association
(USEA) are not required to be a member of USHJA nor pay the non-member
fees providing they show proof of an active membership card from
USEA.
Equine Canada: Members of Equine Canada (Canadian Federation)
do not have to be USHJA members and the non-member fee does not
apply.
Exhibitors who participate in the following: 1) leadline; 2) exhibitions;
3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot and
academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used
regularly in a lesson program

What are the requirements for U.S.
Dressage Federation Members?
If a senior individual is an active member of U.S.
Dressage Federation (USDF) and competing at a hunter/jumper competition,
he/she will be required to pay the USEF $5 breed/discipline fee
AND the $20 non-member fee to USHJA.
A junior individual who is an active member of USDF, is exempt
from the $5 breed/discipline fee to USEF, but would be required
to pay the $20 non-member fee to USHJA.
