This is a member event of the Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International
Hunter Derby Presented by Dietrich Insurance
Goals:
The Derby Series and Final was developed to bring the lost art of
tradition and horsemanship back to the show ring and was created
to bring show hunters to the international level, to increase spectator,
media and sponsorship interest and to bring tradition and basic
riding principles back to the sport of showing hunters.
The Series will consist of qualifying events held nationwide over 12
months culminating in a Series Final in August 2010. Each qualifying event
offers a minimum of $10,000 in prize money with $100,000 being offered
at the finals.
Awards:
The overall Top 12 winners in each class will be awarded the following
prizes:
• Dress Sheet awarded to the Overall Champion: provided by The Clothes Horse
• Crystal Trophy awarded to the Overall Champion
• Stall Plaques awarded to the Top 12: provided by Telluride
Inc/Diane Carney
• Essex Gift Certificate awarded to the Top 12
PLEASE NOTE-please verify with competition management if
additional awards were presented.
Class Overview:
The qualifying events will consist of two courses, a traditional
hunter classic course and a handy hunter course. The top 12 horses
from the first round will be invited back for the handy round. The
courses will be built to encourage and reward brilliance and daring
from the rider and true athletic ability from the horses.
