USHJA Announces the 2012 EAP & HQC National Finalists
September 12, 2012
Lexington, KY - The 2012 USHJA Emerging Athletes Program, presented by Dover Saddlery, held nine Regional Clinics throughout the country and each one concluded with rave reviews from participants and clinicians.
Riders and horses participating in the four day Regional Clinics were instructed on flatwork, gymnastics, related distances and course work, as well as an intensive stable-management curriculum. World renowned equestrian professionals, such as Olympic Medalist Chris Kappler, served as clinicians and mentors.
“The Emerging Athletes Program is designed to help connect our vast country America so that the lower levels and upper levels don’t get so far apart. It is an educational program on all fronts, with the incorporation of stable management and correct riding to see the possibilities of the future.” Chris Kappler, clinician at the Katy, TX Regional Clinic said.
On November 15 through 18 Carl and Rush Weeden of Brookwood Farms, will play host to the 2012 USHJA Emerging Athletes Program National Training Session at Fields and Fences in Gurnee, IL. USHJA will welcome back Olympic Gold Medalist, Peter Wylde, as the lead clinician and Karen Golding as the Stable Management Instructor.
Out of the nearly 200 participants in 2012, 16 standouts have been invited to ride in the National Training Session.
2012 National Finalists
A new component of the National Training Session for this season will grant four reserve riders the opportunity to come and participate in all non-riding activities. As Team Coordinators they will:
- Assist their team in the barn; participate in building courses, jump crew, and walking the Nations Cup course on Day 4.
- Participate in all non-riding activities, horsemanship sessions and take the written test.
- Most importantly, work with their team to ensure the team as a whole has the best experience possible.
The Reserves – in Ranked Order:
This year’s National Training Session is being held at Fields and Fences, a premiere equestrian facility which plays host to various levels of clinics and competitions throughout the year. Located within a beautiful 600-acre horse community, Fields and Fences boasts two heated indoor arenas, heated viewing rooms and numerous amenities for both horse and rider, making it an ideal setting for the National Training Session. USHJA would like to thank Anita Schadeck and Jim Robers for generously donating the use of their facility in support of the Emerging Athletes Program.
Another milestone being decided at the USHJA EAP Nationals will be the crowning of the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Champions, presented by Sweet Briar College. Based on Level Two Quiz scores of 90% or higher the three top-scoring finalists in each zone compete as the Zone Team (these finalists also compete as individuals) and the top 10 individuals nationally- who have not qualified by being on a zone team, are invited to compete at the HQC Finals.
