Alfano and Jersey Boy Light it Up at Devon
June 8, 2010
Jennifer Alfano and Jersey Boy closed out the 2009/2010 Derby season in fine form and brought home the big award, a win in the $25,000 The Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby at the Devon Horse Show and County Fair.
The win at Devon gave Alfano and Jersey Boy back-to-back International Hunter Derby series championship honors for most money won. Jersey Boy is owned by SBS Farms and is trained by Susie Schoellkopf.
Points for the 2009/2010 International Hunter Derby ran from June 2, 2009 through June 1, 2010.
Alfano and Jersey Boy also took reserve honors, finishing behind winner John French and Rumba, in the inaugural 2008/2009 $100,000 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals presented by Dietrich Insurance.
In addition to Devon, during the 2009/2010 season, while competing in seven Derby events, Alfano and Jersey Boy racked up wins at the Chagrin Valley Hunter Jumper Classic, the Chicago Hunter Derby, and the Ocala Winter Finals.
The pair is currently the top horse and rider duo leading up to the 2009/2010 $100,000 The Chronicle of the Horse/USHJA International Hunter Derby, which will be held Aug. 20-21 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky.
The 29 horse and rider combinations that stayed to the last day of the 10-day Devon show read like a who’s who list of this season’s top East Coast hunter derby starters. Finishing in the reserve spot was Maggie Jayne aboard Francesca, and taking third-place was Rock Star with Louise Serio aboard.
In addition to piloting Jersey Boy, Alfano finished fifth aboard The Specialist for Meredith Lipke.
