Requesting Your Feedback:
Amateur Survey Now Available

The USHJA Amateurs Committee, along with the USHJA Owners Committee, is requesting feedback in helping develop parameters for the amateurs division that meets the membership's needs. In doing this, a short survey has been created and the USHJA is asking members to respond as the organization works toward improving the division over the next year.

Members will have until April 9 to complete the survey. Click here to take survey.

Questions on the survey range from home state, zone to the discipline shown in, to asking if members would consider showing or riding their own horse in a competition in addition to another they did not own, if the rules permitted.

"We are trying hard to make changes for the business and the membership," said Margaret O'Meara, USHJA owners' committee co-chair. "We want the members, whose organization this is, to tell us what they want... tell us if this makes sense or does not make sense and tell us why. And filling out that survey is the first step in starting a dialogue with the amateurs out there."

O'Meara said there are several rule changes that impact amateurs and both the owners committee and the amateurs committee feel input from the members is critical to any of the conversations or changes to the rules that impact amateurs. "We promise to read all of the comments, and that they will be put into the discussions about how the rules are going to change," she said.

For more information on the survey visit the USHJA website or contact Melanie Fransen, USHJA Director of Programs and Education at mfransen@ushja.org.

Pair of Trainer Symposiums Scheduled for April

The next opportunity to learn from some of the best riders and instructors in the world of Hunters and Jumpers will come April 19-20 in Washington and April 19-21 in Connecticut during the SmartPak/USHJA Trainer Symposiums. Registration for the symposiums has been open since January 1.

The Symposiums offer attendees a rare opportunity to participate in the practical training sessions and round table discussions with top professionals in the industry. Trainer Symposiums count toward the professional requirements for the USHJA Trainer Certification Program.

The Monroe, Washington, symposium will be held at Evergreen Equestrian Park with Jenny Karazissis leading the Hunter portion and Julie Winkel teaching the jumping sessions.

The Westbrook, Connecticut, symposium will be held at the Westbrook Hunt Club with Morgan Thomas leading the Hunters, Valerie Renihan conducting the Equitation portion, and Linda Allen instructing the Jumpers.

The schedule offers three days of Hunters, Equitation, and Jumpers. Each of the disciplines is broken into sections: i.e. Junior Hunters, Intermediate Equitation, and Junior/Amateur Owner Jumpers. The sections will have three-to-four demonstration riders for the clinician to work and explain different techniques, exercises, and tips for various levels of riders and horses.

This is a great opportunity for professionals and members to exchange thoughts and ideas on training exercises, training aids, and business practices. Symposium registration is currently open.
