USHJA Wheeler Museum is Requesting Submissions for
Next Exhibit – The Thoroughbred Show Horse

The USHJA Wheeler Museum is excited to announce its spring 2013 exhibit Elegance, Power, and Heart – The Thoroughbred Show Horse, which is scheduled to open in late February. The exhibit will honor the significant and unique contributions the Thoroughbred has made to the hunter and jumper disciplines historically, as well as celebrate the resurgence of the breed’s popularity in recent years.

From the significance of the Bonne Nuit sire line, the rule-changing performance of Miss Budweiser, and the Olympic medal-winning performances of Touch of Class and Gem Twist, to the breathtaking performances of Hall of Fame Hunters the likes of Stocking Stuffer, Sign the Card, Best Bet and Sutton Place, this exhibit will showcase the elegance, power, and heart that are trademarks of the Thoroughbred show horse.

The Wheeler Museum invites your participation in this exhibit. We encourage you to share your great Thoroughbred show horse with our visitors and guests by submitting information on an application and sharing any photographs and other artifacts (portraits, blankets, coolers, trophies, ribbons, etc.) that help tell the story. A completed loan agreement (which is attached to the information sheet available at the link above) must accompany all submissions, and all loaned items will be returned at the conclusion of the exhibit. Deadline for submission is Friday, February 15, 2013.

For additional information regarding this exhibit, please contact Leslie Mangan at 859.225.6704.

NEW – USHJA Children’s and Adult Amateur Jumper
  Regional Championships

For 2013 USHJA is introducing new Adult Amateur and Children’s Jumper Championships.

In an effort to provide greater participation, more competition and less cost to exhibitors there will be four regions, composed of the USHJA zones as follows:

  • North – Zones 1, 2 and 5
  • South – Zones 3 and 4
  • Central – Zones 6 and 7
  • West – Zones 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12

Competitions will be held for teams and/or individual riders. The number of teams that each state can send to the Championship will be determined by the number of Children’s jumper riders and Adult Amateur jumper riders residing in a state the previous year. As an example, a state with less than 150 Children’s jumper riders will be permitted one team. A team will consist of a minimum of three horse and rider combinations, but not more than four.

For more information and complete Specifications see the USHJA web site for details.

Any questions please contact Meghan Carney at 859.225.6721.

Reminder for Working Students and Amateurs

As the new competition year gets underway, please make sure to read all of the new rule change proposals that went into effect on 12/1/12. If you are an amateur or a working student, you need to read the complete new version of GR1306. This rule is specific to amateurs. Working students and amateurs will be required to abide by the new rule.

With these important changes now in effect, USHJA encourages all exhibitors and trainers to take the time to review all the new rules, to ensure knowing the rights and wrongs before entering a horse show.

If you have any questions, please email USEF at amateurinquiry@usef.org for a direct response.
