Rood & Riddle Veterinary Pharmacy to Give One Lucky Contest Winner the Opportunity to Experience Kentucky for Free    

Rood & Riddle Veterinary Pharmacy, the Official Veterinary Pharmacy of the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association and the Alltech National Horse Show, is sponsoring a contest to provide free flights and hotel stay for one lucky contest winner for the Kentucky Experience and the Alltech National Horse Show.


Rood & Riddle Veterinary Pharmacy will host a contest via Twitter inviting people to explain in one tweet why they want to attend the Kentucky Experience and the Alltech National Horse Show. The writer of the best tweet will receive free round-trip airfare for two from anywhere in the continental United States to Lexington, KY as well as one room at the Embassy Suites Lexington for three nights, October 31 through November 2, 2013. The winner of the contest will also be provided with seating at the Taylor Harris Club, the exclusive VIP area of the Alltech National Horse Show, for the daytime events at the Alltech Arena on Saturday, November 2.


September 15 Deadline for Affiliate Sportsmanship Awards 

The extended September 15 application deadline for the four USHJA Affiliate Sportsmanship Awards is approaching quickly. The Affiliate Sportsmanship Awards recognize amateurs, juniors, professional riders and riding instructors who exemplify high-quality horsemanship, sportsmanship and integrity. Participation in this awards program is open to all USHJA Affiliate Member Associations.


Youth Award Applications Deadline Approaching   

Applications for two awards that recognize youth members for their equestrian and horsemanship achievements are now open! The USHJA Youth Leadership Award and USHJA nominee for the USEF Youth Sportsman's Award 

identify potential future leaders in the equine industry who demonstrate an ongoing commitment and dedication to USHJA  by promoting the equestrian sport, exhibiting characteristics that exemplify positive sportsmanship principles and who serve as role models for their peers.

2013 USHJA Vital Staff Support Award 

USHJA is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Vital Staff Support Award, which was created as a means to honor the support staff of our sport, those who are typically working behind the scenes in a role that is essential to the success of our horse shows. The announcers, starters, secretaries, technical coordinators, facility managers and their crews, ring crews and assistants of every type, who assist in moving our sport forward are often overlooked and unacknowledged when awards are being distributed. Many of these individuals have worked in our discipline for decades, and USHJA wants to recognize their contributions through this special award.

Thoroughbred Classes for USHJA Outreach Competitions

Beginning September 16, 2013, Outreach Competitions may offer Outreach Thoroughbred Hunter and Jumper Challenge Classes. These classes are modeled after the current format of the Junior Hunter and Hunter Challenge classes.  


Classes may be offered at four different levels:


Hunter Levels

Award Levels:

Bronze: Fences heights to be set at 2'6"

Silver: Fence heights to be set at 2'9"

Gold: Fence heights to be set at 3'0"

Platinum: Fence heights to be set at 3'3"


Jumper Levels

Award Levels:

Bronze: Fences heights to be set at .85m. No triple combinations allowed at this height.

Silver: Fence heights to be set at .95m. No triple combinations allowed at this height.

Gold: Fence heights to be set at 1.0m.

Platinum: Fence heights to be set at 1.05m.

USHJA Annual Meeting Registration is Open

It's not too soon to start planning your trip to the  2013 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia! Annual Meeting registration is now available online and will be offered at a discounted price through 4pm EST on November 15.  


The first 50 people to register online for the 2013 USHJA Annual Meeting will be automatically entered into a drawing to WIN A FREE Charles Owen Helmet.


The 2013 Annual Meeting will be packed with new and exciting business and social events. Be sure to check the schedule online regularly view the updated offerings.

Reminder - 2013 Amateur Sportsmanship & Mrs. A.C. Randolph Owners Legacy Awards Nominations

There is still time to nominate an amateur rider from your area that exhibits a high degree of excellence and integrity by supporting his fellow competitors and/or volunteering his time and resources to various aspects of the industry. Ideal USHJA Amateur Sportsmanship Award candidates include those serving on committees, providing sponsorships and promoting the welfare of the horse. Success in the show ring is a secondary factor. Nominations for the award may come from exhibitors, trainers, colleagues or peers.
