Wheeler Museum Proudly Presents Latest Exhibit Elegance, Power, Heart-The Thoroughbred Show Horse

The USHJA Wheeler Museum's newest exhibit, Elegance, Power, Heart - The Thoroughbred Show Horse opened to the public Monday, April 1, and will run through the end of 2013. Visitors to the Kentucky Horse Park are encouraged to stop by the USHJA Headquarters to view the exhibit.

Once upon a time the Thoroughbred dominated the world of show jumping and was instrumental in shaping and defining the show ring hunter.

You are invited to relive the storied athletes of our past, feel that special bond these Thoroughbreds shared with their owners and riders, and become a fan of today's show ring competitors. Few horses exhibit the heart and bravery inherent in the Thoroughbred, and these qualities have resulted in extraordinary triumphs in international competition, as well as touching personal moments between these horses and their riders and owners.

Revisit yesterday, and celebrate today, as we showcase the elegance, power, and heart that are the Thoroughbred show horse. Museum hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Think You Know It All? Test Your Knowledge with the New Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Practice Quiz

Do you need a good prep for the 2013 Horsemanship Quiz Challenge, presented by Sweet Briar College, or maybe you're looking for a fun way to expand your horsemanship knowledge? USHJA is pleased to announce the launch of the new HQC Practice Quiz. This educational activity is open to all USHJA members of any age wishing to expand their horsemanship knowledge. It will soon have a plethora of practice questions so go ahead and try the quiz out now, and come back later to take it again when more questions are added!

The new practice quiz can also aid USHJA members 20 and younger (per USEF competition rules) who are interested in registering in the full Horsemanship Quiz Challenge program. Registration for the HQC is FREE! Participants with high scores in the HQC Level One and Two Quizzes may receive an invitation to participate in the HQC Finals in Findlay, OH this November, held in conjunction with the Emerging Athletes Program National Training Session. The 2013 HQC Finals is supported in part by a generous grant from the United States Equestrian Federation

All HQC participants must complete both the Level One and Two Quizzes by September 1, 2013. Visit the HQC webpage to learn more and register for the new season or contact Carrie Vaught at (859) 225-6703.

Owner's Resource Guide Now Available

The USHJA Owners Committee created the Owner's Resource Guide to help you, as a horse owner, make educated decisions and assist you in enjoying your experience with horses. This guide supports the vision that welfare of the horse is paramount in our sport. Helping you to become a more educated and engaged owner plays a large role in ensuring this outcome.

This resource guide includes the USHJA Owners Sales Integrity Program, which provides basic information and tips to help owners feel informed and confident in the sales process. The guide also outlines owner and rider responsibilities while at a horse show, and an organization's (USHJA, USEF, etc.) obligations to ensure that your showing experience is maximized.

USHJA Outreach Program Keeps Growing

More and more show managers are adding USHJA Outreach Competitions as an opportunity to recognize competitors participating in local or regional non rated competitions. Largely in part because the USHJA Outreach program appeals to riders with a variety of goals and backgrounds by offering competitive opportunities and year end awards for equitation, hunters and horsemanship.

USHJA Outreach competitions are easy to hold and participation is open to all equine enthusiasts. Riders who are members of the USHJA at the Outreach, Collegiate level or higher will be eligible for year-end awards.

For more information on applying to be a USHJA Outreach Competition or to find Outreach Competitions in your area, visit the USHJA Outreach Competition website or contact Kimberly Knotek at (859) 225-6709.
