NAJYRC Show Jumping Awards Kilian McGrath & Abigail McArdle with Gold

The 2012 North American Junior & Young Rider Show Jumping Championships sponsored by USHJA as part of the 2012 FEI/Adequan North American Junior & Young Riders Championships wrapped up a week of intense competition among elite athletes from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Columbia and Guatemala.

After some thunderstorms cancelled Wednesday's planned start of event, Thursday morning kicked off show jumping action with the individual qualifying rounds. Run under the rules of FEI, the governing body for equestrian sport, 35 junior competitors took on the Table A speed course of 12 obstacles [ 15 efforts ] designed by Richard Jeffery of Bournemouth, England. The biggest obstacles facing the horse and rider pairs was a time allowed of 92 seconds and the open water jump. Only four riders were successful in clearing the course, the quickest time of 79.13 belonged to Cosma 20, a nine year-old Hanoverian mare by Couleur Rubin x Shakira, piloted by Zone 5's Abigail McArdle of Barrington, IL. Zone 4’s Shawn Casady of Harriman, TN placed second with a time of 84.17 aboard Zubantos, an eight year-old KWPN gelding by Namelux R x Zabanta. Rounding out the top three was Gabrielle Bausano of New York, NY representing Zone 2 on Ubico H, an 11 year-old KWPN gelding by Ruben H x Foniek, turning in a clear time of 86.72.

Zone 1 Young Rider Development Class

The Zone 1 Young Rider Development Class is a series of 5 classes, each set at 1.20-1.30m, with the goal of promoting the NAJYRC program and to create incentives for the aspiring young jumper riders. This class will award $2,000 in bonus prize money to the top six Young Rider eligible (JR/AM riders age 14-21) finishers from Zone 1, irrespective of class placings. Following the last class, Fieldstone Summer Showcase, there will be an award presentation to the high money winner from the series.

The five Zone 1 shows holding the 2012 Young Rider Development Class are:

  • Fairfield – June 19-23
  • Vermont Summer Festival – July 4-8
  • Manchester Summer Festival – July 11-15
  • Northampton Hunter & Jumper – August 9-12
  • Fieldstone Summer Showcase – August 21-25

Two More EAP Regional Clinics Garner High Praise

Coker Farm in Bedford, NY played host to the Emerging Athletes Program July 10-13 with clinicians Candice King and Erica McKeever, while the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center of Lake View Terrace, CA welcomed former Olympian Anne Kursinski and stable management expert Anne Thornbury for the program run July 11-14.

Both sets of instructors followed the EAP mission to aid participants in flatwork, gymnastics, related distances and course work, plus the intensive stable-management curriculum over the course of four days, and both clinics received high praise.

Pony Jumpers are Coming!

The 2012 USEF Pony Finals are just around the corner and USHJA is proud to once again sponsor the Pony Jumpers. There will be a competitors meeting on Tuesday, August 7, and show jumping for ponies will begin on Wednesday the 8th running through Friday the 10th.

Olympic Show Jumping Begins August 4th!

Be sure to tune in and cheer on our USA team on Saturday, August 4th as they go for our country’s fourth Gold Medal! You can find the complete Olympic equestrian event schedule and stories on the team members on both NBC Sports and Yahoo Sports. The 2012 show jumping team consists of two time Gold Medalists Beezie Madden and McLain Ward, Rich Fellers-the first American to win the World Cup Final in 25 years and the youngest to make a US Olympic show jumping team, 18 year-old Reed Kessler.

2012 USHJA Trainer Certification Program Clinics

Attendance at a recognized USHJA Trainer Certification Program Clinic will count towards the enrollment requirements for the Trainer Certification Program.
