USHJA is Proud to Announce the 2008 Trainer's Symposium Dates, Locations and New Format.

The Symposiums offer attendees a rare opportunity to participate in practical training sessions and round table discussions with top professionals in the industry.  The new schedule offers three days of hunters, equitation and jumpers.  Each of the disciplines is broken into sections: i.e. Junior Hunters, Intermediate Equitation and Junior/Amateur Owner Jumpers.  The sections will have 3-4 demonstration riders for the clinician to work and explain different techniques, exercises and tips for various levels of riders and horses.  This is a great opportunity for professionals to exchange thoughts and ideas on training exercises, training aids, and business practices.

Not a trainer? The Symposiums are open to everyone!

June 1st- The complete schedule, registration, clinicians and hotel information will be available at www.ushja.org.

The first Symposium will be held September 8-10, 2008 at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, CO followed by the second Symposium which will be held October 24-26, 2008 at Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, VA.

If you have any questions, please contact Melanie Fransen at mfransen@ushja.org.

Interscholastic Equestrian Association Affiliates with USHJA and Participates in the Affiliate Equitation Awards Program

Ron Schwane Photography

The 2008 Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Hunt Seat National Finals was held April 18-20, 2008 at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA. The IEA founded by Roxanne Rheinheimer and Wayne Ackerer in 2002, to provide and promote equestrian athletic competition among middle and high school students in grades 6 through 12.

200 teams, in 7 Zones throughout the United States, competed in over 100 shows during the 2007-2008 school year.  Those teams and individuals qualified for their Zone finals by accumulating a required amount of points during the year.  The top riders from each Zone then earned their place at the Hunt Seat National Finals.  The finals had a total of 272 individual riders on 19 teams that competed in the upper school classes and 17 teams in the middle school classes.

Riders from across the country competed on horses and tack supplied by several Zone 1 (New England) teams. The horses were drawn by participants on the day of the event and ridden with minimal or no warm-up.  Competition included both team and individual categories.  Divisions include Varsity, Junior Varsity and Futures Middle School.

The IEA Leading Rider of the Year was Brittlan Wall (North Gwinnett High School, Suwanee, GA) who won the Varsity Open Championship class.  Brittlan was also the 2007 winner of this prestigious award.  This is the first time in IEA history that a rider has won this award in back to back years.  In honor of Brittlan’s accomplishment, USHJA provided her with a lapel pin, a special monogrammed baseball cap and an embroidered coolerette.  Additionally, the top ten USHJA members in the class were awarded with lapel pins and baseball caps. For a complete listing of results and photos visit www.rideiea.com or for more information call 1-877-RIDEIEA.
