USHJA Recognizes Baker and Hawkins with Lifetime Achievement Award

The United States Hunter Jumper Association announces Pam Baker of Bealeton, VA and Arthur Hawkins of Rancho Santa Fe, CA as the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients.

Created in 2008, the Lifetime Achievement Award honors those whose lifelong involvement in the sport and the USHJA itself has benefited the industry. Recipients of this award have dedicated their lives to advancing the hunter and jumper disciplines on a national platform.

USHJA Congratulates the 2012 EAP National Finalists!

The 2012 USHJA EAP National Training Session, presented by Dover Saddlery, will be hosted by Carl and Rush Weeden and Brookwood Farms on November 15 to 18, 2012, at Fields and Fences, in Gurnee, IL. USHJA also welcomes back Olympic Gold Medalist, Peter Wylde, as the lead clinician and Karen Golding as Stable Manager.

Out of the nearly 200 participants in 2012 the top 16 now move on to the National Training Session and USHJA extends a "Congratulations" to ALL on a great season!

Reminder – USHJA Officers & Director at-Large Positions Recommendations Deadline Approaching!

With the closing of Zone Committee elections, it’s now time for USHJA members to turn their considerations to the election of USHJA Board members. Nominations are now being accepted for President, Secretary, Treasurer and seven Directors at-Large positions. Submissions of nomination for President close on September 15 and all other nominations will close on September 30. To learn more about the process and nomination forms please click here.

Two Youth Award Applications Closing Soon!

Applications for two awards that recognize youth members for their equestrian and horsemanship achievements are closing soon! The USHJA Youth Leadership Award and USHJA nominee for the USEF Youth Sportsman's Award identify potential future leaders in the equine industry who demonstrate an ongoing commitment and dedication to USHJA by promoting the equestrian sport, exhibiting characteristics that exemplify positive sportsmanship principles and who serve as role models for their peers.

Applicants for the USHJA Youth Leadership Award must be between 12 to 15 years of age, while USHJA nominees for the USEF Youth Sportsman's Award must be 17 years or younger.

Application deadline for USHJA Youth Leadership Award: September 25, 2012. Application deadline for USHJA nominee for USEF Youth Sportsman's Award: October 1, 2012.

EAP Host Facility Applications Currently Being Accepted

Applications for facilities interested in hosting an Emerging Athletes Regional Clinic in 2013 are currently being accepted. The Host Facility does not have to be a show facility to be considered. Private farms, boarding facilities, universities, prep schools, et cetera may apply as long as the facilitycan meet USHJA and EAP requirements. Clinics must be offered between June 1 – August 31. Applications must be received in the USHJA office or postmarked no later than October 1, 2012.

REMINDER – Nominations for USHJA Amateur Sportsmanship & Owners Legacy Awards Close Soon

The October 15th deadline to nominate an amateur rider from your area who shows a high degree of excellence and integrity through supporting their fellow competitors and/or volunteering their time and resources to various aspects of the industry is quickly approaching. Success in the show ring is a secondary factor. Nominate them today for the USHJA Amateur Sportsmanship Award!

Nominations are also being accepted for The Mrs. A.C. Randolph Owners Legacy Award. This award was created to acknowledge a past or current owner who has been, or is, a true “patron” of the hunter/jumper industry. This award honors an owner who has created a legacy of giving back to the hunter/jumper sport through continued dedication and support.

Don’t miss the opportunity to honor the equestrians who give so much to your sport! October 15th is the deadline to submit nominations for both awards.

Looking for Something Closer to Home? USHJA Outreach Competitions Are the Answer

If you’re tired of the packing and having to travel great distances for your horse showing fix- be sure to check out the USHJA Outreach Calendar for a local show in your neighborhood! USHJA Outreach Competitions set a minimum standard for unrecognized (local) competitions; participation is open to all equine enthusiasts, regardless of current USHJA membership status.

2012 USHJA Trainer Certification Program Clinics

Attendance at a recognized USHJA Trainer Certification Program Clinic will count towards the enrollment requirements for the Trainer Certification Program. TCP applicants may also fulfill their educational requirement by completing the Online Trainer Certification Course.
