Harding and Pope Awarded for their Sportsmanship

USHJA congratulates Taylor Harding as the 2011 recipient of the inaugural USHJA Young Horseman's Award and Jacob Pope as the USHJA nominee for the USEF Youth Sportsman's Award. Harding and Pope will be recognized at the USHJA Annual Meeting during the Evening of Equestrians awards dinner. Harding will receive a complimentary three-year active USHJA membership and Pope will receive a $500 grant for training and education. Pope will also be considered for the overall USEF Youth Sportsman's Award. All applicants displayed a high caliber of sportsmanship and involvement in the hunter/jumper industry.

2011 EAP National Training Session

The 2011 EAP National Training Session will be held at Country Ridge Stables in Mundelein, IL November 17-20, 2011. Peter Wylde, Melanie Taylor, Mindy Bower and Jennifer Alfano will work with riders during the exciting three and a half days of training, resulting in one overall winner receiving a $3000 grant to be applied toward the cost of advanced training with an approved trainer. Two lucky riders will also be invited to attend the 2012 George Morris Horsemastership Clinic presented by USEF January 3-7, 2012 at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, FL.

The EAP National Training Session will also be offered as a TCP Clinic. Professionals may audit this event to complete the educational requirement of the Trainers Certification Program. Auditors are also welcome! For more information visit or contact Kimber Ditallo at Country Ridge Stables.

2012-13 Derby Applications Re-Open!

The USHJA High Performance Hunter Committee, with approval of the USHJA Board of Directors, is removing the limit on the number of competitions allowed to host USHJA International Hunter Derby classes, starting with the 2012-13 Qualifying Series. Therefore the application process for hosting a USHJA International Hunter Derby class between June 2, 2012-June 1, 2013 has been re-opened through November 1, 2011, to accommodate competitions that may choose to apply under the new fee structure. This time period is the twelve (12) month qualifying period for the USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals to be held in 2013. Completed applications must be received in the USHJA office or postmarked on or before 5 pm Eastern Time on November 1st to be considered.

New in 2012: USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge

Attention all youth members: Test your horsemanship knowledge this February with one of USHJA's newest programs, the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge! The Horsemanship Quiz Challenge, presented by Sweet Briar College, educates and recognizes young equestrians who have exceptional horsemanship knowledge through a three-part quiz series. This program is open to all levels of youth horsemen and horsewomen, regardless of their competition achievements.

George Morris Clinic Grant Being Offered

The Zone 2 Hunter Committee is offering a $1,000 grant for the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center's George Morris Clinic on November 11-13, 2011. All applications must be in by October 31, 2011.

The USHJA is now offering standard Trainer Certification Program Clinics (TCP Clinics) as well as Trainer's Symposiums. Attendance at a recognized USHJA Trainer Certification Program Clinic will count towards the enrollment requirements for the Trainer Certification Program.
