USHJA Affiliate Awards Receive a New
Name
The USHJA Affiliates
Council has been working diligently in 2007 to improve current award
programs and create new ones. With the anticipation of new programs to
come the Affiliates Council decided to rename the current Affiliate Awards
Program to reflect the true intent of the program, Sportsmanship. The
Affiliate Awards Program will now be called the Affiliate
Sportsmanship Awards Program. USHJA hopes this new title
will bring more clarity to the award and distinguish it from other USHJA
Awards.
The final list of Affiliates participating
in the 2007 awards program has been posted on the website.
As of May 30, 2007 there are 56 participating Affiliate Organizations. To

USHJA Amateur
Sportsmanship Award Now Accepting
Nominations
The goal of the Amateur
Sportsmanship Award is to recognize Amateur-Owner and Adult Amateur
exhibitors who exhibit a degree of excellence and integrity by supporting
their fellow competitors and volunteer their time and resources to various
aspects of the industry.
Anyone may nominate an amateur for this award. A
name, contact information, biography,
and at least one letter
of recommendation must be submitted to USHJA by Tuesday,
October 2, 2007.

Nominees will be judged on: priority in the welfare
and well being of all horses; supports and encourages everyone; volunteers
within the industry; has a passion for the sport; is a role model for all
and a good ambassador and good sportsman of all amateurs. Please contact

Zone 5
Scholarship
Reminder for all Zone 5
Juniors! The Zone 5 Horsemanship Class will be held again during the
Kentucky National Horse Show. The class will be held on Friday
evening, September 28 and can be entered by Zone 5 members instead of, but
not in addition to, the Maclay regional warm-up. Pledges have
been made by several major vendors for great prizes. As in the past,
25% will be based on a written test (given mid-day September 28) based on
George Morris' book "Hunter Seat Equitation", 25% on the flat phase and 50%
on the jumping phase. Look for more detail in our advertisement in
the Kentucky National prize list, and on the USHJA website.
Also,
if you are a high school senior, it is not too late to apply for the 2007
Zone 5 Scholarship. $10,000.00 will be awarded to the winner.
