Level I Training Sessions will be offered in Zones 1-10 beginning in April. The mission of the Emerging Athletes Program is to develop and implement a system of identifying and nurturing talented young riders, by providing them with the support and assistance necessary to facilitate the opportunity to reach their full potential by creating a national program as a pipeline to international competition. "This is a national grass roots program for emerging athletes that is only the start of something very big and important to the future of the next generation of our sport. USHJA and the members of the Emerging Athletes Committee are committed to making this program one that will provide a stepladder for young talent to reach their goals of riding on a team representing the United States someday," stated Melanie Smith, Co-Chairman of the Emerging Athletes Committee. ____________________________________________ USHJA Member Choice Awards The Members Choice Awards Program, developed by the Show Standards Committee, gives horse show exhibitors and participants the opportunity to award excellence at USEF Licensed Hunter Jumper competitions through their feedback relating to the competition, the facility where it took place, footing, show personnel and hospitality. The goal of the Members Choice Awards Program is to promote exhibitor friendly competitions and reward excellence based on the amenities and qualities exhibitors value. Competitions winning the Best Overall Competition awards will receive a USHJA banner, recognizing their accomplishment. Additionally, they will receive free publicity through USHJA’s In Stride magazine, in our E-News Updates and on our website. Savannah College of Art and Design will host the Trainer Symposium on May 1-3 in Savannah, GA. Trainer Symposiums give members the opportunity to participate in practical training sessions and round table discussions with top professionals in the industry. The schedule offers three days of instruction from top clinicians in the country, specializing in hunters, equitation and jumpers, with topics ranging from training exercises to business practices. Clinicians for the event are still to be determined. Those who are applying for certification when the new Trainer Certification Program (TCP) unveils in June 2009 will be able to count the SCAD symposium to their credit. The TCP requires candidates to attend a Trainer Symposium in order to be certified. Register to attend the Savannah College of Art and Design Trainer Symposium. Be sure to check the USHJA website for updated information concerning the symposium and clinician information. Questions regarding the Trainer Symposium may be directed to Melanie Fransen at mfransen@ushja.org or 859-225-6960. ____________________________________________ USHJA Junior Career Development Program The USHJA Junior Career Development Program provides a rare opportunity for junior riders to apprentice with a competition official for a day. The program pairs a junior rider with a competition official such as a judge, show manager, show secretary, steward, course designer, vet or farrier giving them the ability to better understand the duties and responsibilities of these officials. It’s also a great opportunity for juniors to determine if they would like to pursue a career in one of these positions. The apprenticeship is for one day, maximum of eight hours, and is open to USHJA junior members between the ages of 14-18. To participate in the program and for a complete list of participating officials, please visit the Junior Career Development Program page on the USHJA web site. Questions about the Junior Career Development Program may be directed to Erin True at etrue@ushja.org or 859-825-6002. ____________________________________________ Zone News: Call for Information and Deadlines Help Us, Help You Zone Deadlines: North American Junior Young Rider Championship criteria changes are due 60 days prior to the Zone's qualifying period. ____________________________________________ Upcoming Zone Banquets If you do not see your banquet listed please check your Zone page as we continue to update the banquet schedule.
