Deadline Approaching for Emerging Athletes Program Level I Training Session in Zones 1 & 3
Monday, February 23, 2009 marks the application deadline for Zone 1 and Zone 3 Emerging Athletes Level I Training Sessions. The Zone 3 Training Session is scheduled for April 4-5 at Fox Chase Farm in Middleburg, VA. The following week, Zone 1 will hold its training session April 10-11 at Westbrook Hunt Club in Westbrook, CT. Fill out an application to apply to participate in the Level I Training Sessions.
The Emerging Athletes Program provides young riders the opportunity to learn from top riders and trainers in the industry while developing their career as a professional. With the creation of a national program, the USHJA hopes to transition young athletes to international competition. At each Training Session, riders will receive guidance and feedback from top professionals in the industry and be evaluated on their horsemanship skills, overall knowledge and riding ability.
All junior and amateur USHJA members 21 years of age and under are eligible to apply to the program. Interested athletes must be able to display proficiency in completing jumper style courses over the respective fence height for which they are applying. Each Training Session will be divided into three fence height sections: 3’0, 3’6 and 4’0. A maximum of eight riders will be accepted per height section.

USHJA Debuts Outreach Competition and
Medal Program for Affiliates
The USHJA B/C/Local Task Force, along with the Affiliates Committee, would like to announce the debut of the USHJA Outreach Competition, along with the Outreach Medal Program.
Outreach Level Competitions have been developed to:
o Set a minimum standard for local competitions that want the right to refer to the USEF rulebook for governance without the USEF or the USHJA having any regulatory function regarding their association or horse shows.
o Create a level of horse shows that will be affiliated with USHJA, but not with USEF.
o Encourage participation in the USHJA at the Affiliate Organization and Outreach Member levels.
o Create four USHJA sponsored “Outreach” Medal Classes with national criteria that are designed specifically for Outreach members and which may only be offered at the Outreach Competitions.

USHJA Member's Choice Awards
The Member's Choice Awards Program, developed by the Show Standards Committee, gives horse show exhibitors and participants the opportunity to award excellence at USEF Licensed Hunter Jumper competitions through their feedback relating to the competition, the facility where it took place, footing, show personnel and hospitality.
The goal of the Member's Choice Awards Program is to promote exhibitor friendly competitions and reward excellence based on the amenities and qualities exhibitors value. Competitions winning the Best Overall Competition awards will receive a USHJA banner, recognizing their accomplishment. Additionally, they will receive free publicity through USHJA’s In Stride magazine, in our E-News Updates and on our website. Click here to vote today!

Zone News: Call for Information and Deadlines
Help Us, Help You
In order to better promote zone events and programs, the USHJA asks that each zone provide a complete list of all programs, scholarships, fundraisers, forums, etc. that are offered through your zone. Having the information available will help USHJA staff in promoting zone events through the website and fielding phone calls coming into the office. We’re happy to help promote your events, as long as we know about them in advance.
Please submit a list of your zone activities by March 15th to Zone Coordinator Claudia Meeks.
Zone Deadlines:
National Pony Jumper Championship criteria changes are due May 1, 2009.
North American Junior Young Rider Championship criteria changes are due 60 days prior to the Zone's qualifying period.
