Application Deadline – 2012 USEF National Junior Jumper Championships "Prix des States"

The Pennsylvania National Horse Show in Harrisburg, PA will host the annual USEF National Junior Jumper Championships, which will be held October 11-13. Additional information regarding the 2012 USEF National Junior Jumper Championships can be found on the USEF website or by contacting Jennifer Haydon at or Chris Murphy.

USHJA Affiliate Sportsmanship Award Nominations Due by September 1st!

Looking for a way to recognize an individual who demonstrates an ongoing commitment and dedication to the USHJA and their affiliate organization? The USHJA Affiliate Sportsmanship award recognizes junior, amateur and professional riders, along with riding instructors.

USHJA Affiliated Associations participating in the USHJA Affiliate Sportsmanship Award have the opportunity to select up to four award winners per year. Award winners must be current members of the USHJA at the Outreach level or higher. Accolades for the candidates must be earned from December 1st - September 1st of the current competition year.

Affiliate winners will also be eligible for the USHJA Regional Affiliate Sportsmanship Award. Regional winners receive a free USHJA membership for 2013 or 2014 and will be recognized at the USHJA Annual Meeting. Deadline to submit a candidate is midnight September 1, 2012.

Reminder – Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Closes This Saturday!

Time is running out to test your horsemanship knowledge with the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge presented by Sweet Briar College! This opportunity ends this Saturday, September 1! The HQC educates and recognizes young equestrians who have exceptional horsemanship knowledge. The goal of this program is to ignite passion for expanding horsemanship education and make it an integral part of equestrian life.

Any current USHJA junior or amateur member under 21 years of age (according to USEF rules) is invited to participate in the program, regardless of their competition achievements. All participants scoring 90% or higher on the Level One Quiz advance to the more challenging Level Two Quiz, and the top-scoring participants from Level Two advance to the HQC Finals, held in conjunction with the Emerging Athletes Program National Training Session in November 2012.

USHJA Officers & Director at-Large Positions Recommendations Now Being Accepted

With the closing of Zone Committee elections, it’s now time for USHJA members to turn their considerations to the election of USHJA Board members. Nominations are now being accepted for President, Secretary, Treasurer and seven Directors at-Large positions. Selections Now Open for USHJA Amateur Sportsmanship and Owners Legacy Awards

Do you know an amateur rider in your area that exhibits a high degree of excellence and integrity by supporting their fellow competitors and/or volunteering their time and resources to various aspects of the industry? Success in the show ring is a secondary factor. Nominate them today for the USHJA Amateur Sportsmanship Award!

Nominations are also being accepted for The Mrs. A.C. Randolph Owners Legacy Award. This award was created to acknowledge a past or current owner who has been, or is, a true “patron” of the hunter/jumper industry. This award honors an owner who has created a legacy of giving back to the hunter/jumper sport through continued dedication and support.

EAP Host Facility Applications Currently Being Accepted

Applications for facilities interested in hosting an Emerging Athletes Regional Clinic in 2013 are currently being accepted. The Host Facility does not have to be a show facility to be considered. Private farms, boarding facilities, universities, prep schools, et cetera may apply as long as the facilitycan meet USHJA and EAP requirements. Clinics must be offered between June 1 – August 31. Applications must be received in the USHJA office or postmarked no later than October 1, 2012.

USHJA Rewarding Youth for their Equestrian Achievements

Applications are now being accepted for two USHJA awards that recognize youth members for their equestrian and horsemanship achievements! The USHJA Youth Leadership Award and USHJA nominee for the USEF Youth Sportsman's Award identify potential future leaders in the equine industry who demonstrate an ongoing commitment and dedication to USHJA by promoting the equestrian sport, exhibiting characteristics that exemplify positive sportsmanship principles and who serve as role models for their peers.

Applicants for the USHJA Youth Leadership Award must be between 12 to 15 years of age, while USHJA nominees for the USEF Youth Sportsman's Award must be 17 years or younger.

Application deadline for USHJA Youth Leadership Award: September 25, 2012.
