Nominations for USHJA Officers & Director at-Large Positions Now Open

With the closing of Zone Committee elections, it’s now time for USHJA members to turn their considerations to the election of USHJA Board members. Nominations are now being accepted for President, Secretary, Treasurer and seven Directors at-Large positions. Submissions of nomination for President close on September 15 and all other nominations will close on September 30. To learn more about the process and nomination forms please click here.

Let the Bidding Begin – Calcutta Benefitting USHJA Foundation Returns to the International Hunter Derby Finals!

Get your check books ready for the 2012 Derby Finals Team Calcutta! Held during the Welcome Reception on Thursday, August 16 at the USHJA Headquarters at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington! Professional auctioneer Jeff Minton will be taking bids for Derby teams – comprised of all the horse and riders combinations competing in the Classic Hunter round. Money raised will be split 50/50 – with half going to the Horseman’s Assistance Fund and half into the jackpot to be won! There is more than one way to win! Mark your calendars so you don’t miss this worthy event!

USEF Network will Broadcast the USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals!

If you can’t join us for the USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals in person – no worries! The USEF Network will be providing the next best thing to being here via a live feed of the event! You’ll be able to catch all the action at www.usefnetwork.com.

Live streaming begins Saturday, August 18 with the Consolation Round at 4:00pm EDT. Coverage continues at 7:30pm with the opening ceremonies. Commentators Danny Robertshaw and Brian Lookabill will give you all the play by play action!

Pony Mania Comes to USHJA!

Nearly two hundred USEF Pony Finals competitors descended upon the Wheeler Museum at the United States Hunter Jumper Association headquarters for a Welcome Reception designed just for these wee warriors! .

The Ponies through the Decades exhibit was open for all to enjoy a stroll through pony history via collected artifacts, photographs, and even vintage footage of the 1961 Pony Championships in England. USHJA’s lobby and patio were adorned with an array of temptations, including chocolate fondue stations with an assortment of dippable treats. Guest were greeted with a gift of their very own Wheeler Pony to remind them the fun of the pony exhibit didn’t stop once they left, each pony came with a special bookmark that provided information on how to join the virtual Ponies through the Decades online exhibit courtesy of site host Virtual Celebration.

USHJA Affiliate Sportsmanship Award Nominations Close on September 1st

Looking for a way to acknowledge an individual who demonstrates commitment and dedication to their affiliate organization? The USHJA Affiliate Sportsmanship award recognizes juniors, amateurs, professional riders and riding instructors.

USHJA Affiliated Associations participating in the USHJA Affiliate Sportsmanship Award have the opportunity to select up to four award winners per year. Award winners must be current members of the USHJA at the Outreach level or higher and the accolades for the candidates must be earned from December 1st – September 1st of the current competition year.

Affiliate winners will be eligible for the USHJA Regional Affiliate Sportsmanship Award. Regional winners receive a free USHJA membership for 2013 or 2014 and will be recognized at the USHJA Annual Meeting.

EAP Host Facility Applications Currently Being Accepted

Applications for facilities interested in hosting an Emerging Athletes Regional Clinic in 2013 are currently being accepted. The Host Facility does not have to be a show facility to be considered. Private farms, boarding facilities, universities, prep schools, et cetera may apply as long as the facilitycan meet USHJA and EAP requirements. Clinics must be offered between June 1 and August 31. Applications must be received in the USHJA office or postmarked no later than October 1, 2012.

Reminder – Horsemanship Quiz Challenge Closes September 1st

Time is running out to test your horsemanship knowledge with the Horsemanship Quiz Challenge presented by Sweet Briar College! This opportunity ends on September 1! The HQC educates and recognizes young equestrians who have exceptional horsemanship knowledge. The goal of this program is to ignite passion for expanding horsemanship education and make it an integral part of equestrian life.

Any current USHJA junior or amateur member under 21 years of age (according to USEF rules) is invited to participate in the program, regardless of their competition achievements. All participants scoring 90% or higher on the Level One Quiz advance to the more challenging Level Two Quiz, and the top-scoring participants from Level Two advance to the HQC Finals, held in conjunction with the Emerging Athletes Program National Training Session in November 2012.
