Essex Classics Returns as Title Sponsor of the 2010 USHJA Hunterdon Cup Equitation Class

Essex Classics is retuning as the Title Sponsor of the 2010 USHJA Hunterdon Cup Equitation Class. This marks the third consecutive year the company, which is internationally recognized as an innovator of design for today's equestrian needs in riding shirts, has sponsored the class.

"Essex Classics has provided our Hunterdon Cup and Hunter Derby riders with a quality product in their Signature line of riding shirts. We are pleased to have them return as a USHJA sponsor for a third year, helping USHJA to maintain the highest standard in the products we present as awards to our hard working members," said USHJA President, Bill Moroney.

As Title Sponsor of the 2010 USHJA Hunterdon Equitation Cup, Essex Classics will provide support and awards for all the competitors.

"Essex Classics, an innovator of fine riding shirts for more than 25 years, is proud to renew its sponsorship of the Hunterdon Cup and the International Derby Series," said Cathy Sacher, president of Essex Classics. "These two programs exemplify innovation in our sport, taking it to a new level. The Hunterdon Cup promotes the tradition of classic equitation principals and the International Hunter Derby series promotes the beauty and grace of our hunters in one of the most exciting venues in years."

Essex Classics Signature riding shirts use European designed cotton fabrics and feature exquisite tailoring details. Among their most popular shirts, Essex Performance Collection riding shirts are constructed from CoolMax, a fabric designed to keep riders cool during competitions. Stay on top of the latest fashion from Essex Classics by visiting the company's Web site www.essexclassics.com.

The USHJA Hunterdon Cup Equitation Class began in 2005 and was developed as a unique equitation class that combines the precision of equitation and hardiness of hunters. This year's class will be held August 4 at the USEF Junior Hunter National Championships-East Coast at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY.

For qualifying information please contact Sterling Berry sberry@ushja.org at 859.225.6705 or visit the Hunterdon Cup webpage.

New Rule Changes Effective April 1, 2010

Several rule changes went into effect April 1. Below is a listing to keep all members aware and up-to-date of these changes.

One of the most important changes is a rule regarding drugs and medications. Beginning December 1, 2011, exhibitors may give only one non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), rather than two to horses in competition due to the harmful effects overuse of these substances can have on the animal's health and well-being.

In preparation for this change, the United States Equestrian Federation Board of Directors approved an interim rule (GR 410.4), which will be in effect from April 1, 2010 through November 30, 2011. Members will be permitted to give two NSAIDs in accordance with current rules regarding the administration of NSAIDs, provided an NSAID Declaration Form is filed with the show office prior to the horse competing. The forms are available in show offices, as well as on the USHJA website.

Under the current USEF rules, no more than two of the seven approved and quantitatively restricted NSAIDs are permitted in a horse while competing at a Federation licensed competition. The one exception to this rule is that currently phenylbutazone (bute) and flunixin (Banamine) are a forbidden combination, and are never permitted together in the horse at the time of a competition.

The other rules that changed or have been modified include:

GR410 Tracking 434-09 Equine Drugs and Medications.
Important announcement regarding the use of NSAIDs.

EQ106.3 Tracking 332-09 Conditions Governing USEF Medal Finals.
Qualifying year change for 2011 and beyond for Hunter Seat Medal Final.

EQ112.12 Tracking 460-09 Requirements for Specific Classes.
ASPCA Horsemanship Class changes.

EQ112.13 Tracking 461-09 Requirements for Specific Classes.
USEF Show Jumping Talent Search specification changes.

EQ112.15 Tracking 336-09 Requirements for Specific Classes.
New specifications for USHJA Hunterdon Equitation Cup Classic.

HU135.2(i). Tracking 424-09 Faults.
Major faults breaking stride or trotting while on course.

HU188.4, .6 and .10 Tracking 414-09 USHJA International Derby.
Point structure changed; horses must be registered/recorded with USHJA/USEF before class starts.

You can find these rule change proposals along with other rule notifications and updates by visiting the new USHJA rule website.
