Zone 7 News (May and June 2010)

Zone 7’s Junior Amateur-Owner Team competed at the 2010 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington FL. April 2. Riders from various zones competed on teams in sections of low, medium, and high. The low section team winner was Zone 7, with Wilton Porter, Meagan Nusz, Audrey Trimble, and Alexandra Elkins. Wilton Porter went double clear on Pistol. Audrey Trimble and Memphis had scores of four and clear, as did Meagan Nusz with Larioso. Alexandra Elkins and Obi Wan Kanobie finished with eight and four. They finished with a team score of eight total faults.

The 2010 Junior Hunter Finals have returned to the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington KY. This National competition will be held August 5-7. All Junior riders who have won a Champion or Reserve Champion placement at an "AA" show during the July 2, 2009 to July 1, 2010 qualifying period are encouraged to participate. The Pin Oak Horse Show, Katy, TX. was the scene for Wilhelm Genn to set a world record for winning his 30th Grand Prix with Happy Z.

2010 Zone 7 Finals Date, Location, Criteria and Process Announced

Zone 7 Finals will be held at the Fun Fall Horse Show in Tyler, Texas the week of October 13-17.

Zone 7 Finals Criteria and Process

25 horses will be invited to compete in each of the Zone Final Classics offered.
Points for qualification will begin on December 1, 2009 and cut-off August 15, 2010.
USHJA Staff will notify all competitors that have valid Zone 7 points in any and all Zone 7 Classics that are listed below inviting them to respond if they are interested in competing at the finals. The announcement will inform the competitor, that after the closing date, if more than 25 horses have responded of their interest to compete, the list would be sorted by points and the 25 horses with the most points during the qualification period will be notified via a formal invitation of acceptance. Notification will also be sent to those who applied to compete but fell below the 25 highest point standing horses.

The list of classics that will be offered at the Zone 7 Finals are:

  • Small Pony Hunter
  • Medium Pony Hunter
  • Large Pony Hunter
  • Children’s Hunter Pony
  • Green Working Hunter
  • Regular Working Hunter
  • Small Junior Hunter
  • Large Junior Hunter
  • Pre-Green Hunter 3' and 3'3" combined
  • Amateur Owner Hunter
  • Children’s Hunter Horse
  • Amateur Adult Hunter
  • Children’s Jumper
  • Amateur Adult Jumper
  • Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper
  • Pony Jumper

Horses that compete in both sections during the year must pick which classic they would like to enter as the same horse cannot compete in both classics at the Finals:

  • Junior Hunter and Children’s Hunter
  • Amateur Adult Hunter and Amateur Owner Hunter
  • Junior Jumper and Children’s Jumper
  • Amateur Adult Jumper and Amateur Owner Jumper

Points Earned In Zone 7 Finals Classics. Special points will be given in all Zone 7 classics held during Zone 7 Final competitions provided the Federation has a current zone award for that section/division. Special points are as follows: 30 for first place or champion; 20 points for second place or reserve champion; 15 for third; 10 for fourth; 9 for fifth; 8 for sixth. Jumpers will either receive points for money won or the bonus points listed whichever is greater.

Zone 7 Forum

July 19 during the GO Show in Oklahoma City, OK

Forums provide an avenue for information exchange between Committee chairpersons, riders and parents. Forum time and agendas will be forthcoming. Anyone interested in hosting a forum with the zone should contact Bill Whisenant at billwhiz@lawtonnet.net.
