On July 8, 2004, the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) received formal recognition from the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Board of Directors as the "Official" National Affiliate for the hunter and jumper disciplines. In less than five years, the USHJA has grew exponentially to nearly 40,000 members, a full-time staff of over 15 members, dozens of outsourced partners and vendors nationwide, and an annual operating budget of $2,174,000.

For nearly five years, the USHJA has resided at the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) headquarters in the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky. The Kentucky Horse Park, an international equestrian destination, annually attracts 1,000,000 visitors and hosts more than 70 equestrian competitions and/or events.

Due to its unprecedented success and growth, the USHJA Officers and Board of Directors identified the need for larger accommodations in order to position itself for the future. To that end, the USHJA purchased a 'key' piece of property in the Kentucky Horse Park and built a national USHJA headquarters.
